How do Tanks play in solo leveling?

I don’t think I’m “new” to WoW anymore, but I’ve only played DPS classes. The last time I played a tank was in SWTOR, and fighting things solo was sloooooooowwww as hell. Is it at least fun in this?

Asking because I wanna try brewmaster.

Pull five times as much and take five times as long

Though, tbf, if someone is leveling a DH, just go Havoc. Because then you can pull five times as much without taking five times as long.

I can’t speak to brewmaster, but I main a bear with feral affinity for the extra dps from cat weaving. Between that and being able to pull a whole zone without dying, things die just fine.

Pull everything on the map and then AoE down ----> Profit

When you can pull 5, 10, 15 things at once and AOE them down, it’s fine.

If you’re on a quest with sparsely-placed single mobs, or fighting a single elite, it’s slower than going DPS.

Stagger is crappy for open world stuff. I admit I’ve never been a good brew but I found ww superior in every conceivable way.

Level as DPS when faster.

Unless they changed the code when I leveled DH’s the game switches specs on the LFD pickup.

My dh spec’d as vengeance to clear out some 3+ player quests signed up as dps for lfd. When the dungeon popped it auto changed me to havoc. Bars and everything. Left dungeon, back to vengeance no interaction.

So it should would work the other way. Should…

Tbf one thing I love about WoW over swtor so far is that if I try brewmaster and don’t like it I can just switch to another spec on the fly

Brewmaster is the worst tank to level as is in terms of solo content. You get VERY little self-healing, and your mitigation style is really designed for making healers lives easier (you take smoother damage, not less). You can still pull more than a DPS, but way less than basically every other tank.

Well, the best answer is to not to level as a tank.

Monk has an advantage over some of the other tank classes because you can tank and DPS in the exact same gear.

So switch your spec for the content you are doing

Really? The same gear? What? Why?

I haven’t played any of the other monk specs before either, so kinda curious why the tank and dps can use the same gear.

DH player: Am I a joke to you?

Because Brewmaster and WW can both use 2-handed agility weapons or dual wield.

Also, the top secondary stat for both Brewmaster and WW is versatility

I said “some”.

Yes DH can do the same thing

Protection Warrior easy mode.

Pull one; bam bam bam
Pull two; heal from last kill, bam bam bam.
Repeat…

I used to, but not much anymore. I just run in a healing spec and run avoid as much as I can, or DPS and mow it down, using lots of mitigation / heals.

  1. Spec into
  1. Use it. It will hold aggro unless you taunt or keg smash. You can use it to:
    -Gather nodes
-Complete quest objectives and run away
-Drop it as a distraction while running away from a hairy situation

You can also let it roll, taunt specific mobs, and kill them a bit away from Dave (the statue) without peeling aggro on other targets.

  1. Make this macro or a similar one:

#showtooltip Provoke
/tar [mod:shift] Black Ox Statue
/cast Provoke
/targetlasttarget [mod:shift]

Once you’re confident that you cannot die (ie, if celestial brew is up) you can drop this on top of a large pack and just go to town.

but to be fair, I leveled brm in BfA, but in SL I was able to level as WW comfortably. Same thing with druid, in BFA I HAD to go guardian, but I leveled as feral for the most part this time around.

I still go brwm whenever Im in the maw. Dave is really helpful in there.

You can respec for solo leveling and add some stuff that gets you extra dps, at least in most classes. Then switch to survivability for instances.

As a Blood DK, I could solo all group quests when levelling.

I love leveling with tank specs, been doing it for years.
However, at the lower levels they have limited tools. They will get slightly more health and defenses but until you get a some AoE and self healing it’s going to be easier to play DPS and then switch.
Once you can heal yourself and have some AoE skills you can have a lot of fun pulling groups of enemies and working them down. Just be wary of what skills and spells they use. Getting two or more enemies who stun or fear you is not fun.

Brewmaster and Windwalker can share gear.
Guardian and Feral Druid share gear.
Unholy and Blood Death Knight share gear.
Demon Hunter uses same gear for both specs.
Warriors and Paladins need a 1 handed weapon and shield to tank and use 2 handed weapons for DPS, so without heirloom weapons that can be tough to maintain. Don’t recommend them without heirloom weapons for easy swapping. Heirlooms are sold and upgraded at a vendor in Orgrimmar.

Secondary stats aren’t very important until max level and you usually don’t get a ton of choices while leveling.
