How do "Pro" WoW players survive?

I was in Snutz’s stream and he was talking about how low tournament winnings are and how far and few in between tourneys are placed throughout the year.

He said he primarily earns a living off streaming as with most people, but he did mention how some AWC players do not stream at all but still play WoW for like 8+ hours a day.

So how exactly do some of these pro players survive if tournament earnings are meager and they don’t make any money off social media?

who knows ask them?

I mean I would love to ask them but some of them don’t even stream but play WoW daily like a full time job, so i’m just curious how it works if it’s like LoL and there’s some big eSports company that pays them a full time salary to do it.

They live with their parents or have 5 room mates.

Honestly think they have some sort of side hustle. Mud works, i always watch him and hear him talk about having to work, but he always says he doesnt do anything to monetize his stream. (MUD, I KNOW YOU LOVE ROGUE TEARS, BUT IF YOURE OUT THERE I GOT SOME GIFTED SUBBIES FOR YA).

But yeah, pikaboo gets sponsored ads for twitch and youtube from OTHER games lol. always thought it was sad to see him promote a game he probably never plays for the money.

Unfortunately for blizz and pro players, wow started way before the esports scene so the prize pool is garbage. I think blizz could tweak it to increase the rewards but im not sure.

And specifically regarding snutz, people say that he does paid coaching, so maybe thats what he does personally?

bro literally no one but them would know their own financial situation.

He only takes gold though so idk.

oh idk then but saving $15 a month on wow sub helps you buy a meal or two lmao

True hahe, it’s just interesting.

Like I see Brain/Drake being the top usually in AWC so I think maybe Luminosity might have them on salary?

That would be cool to see the inner workings of how eSports players get paid in WoW.

u people really are petty. seeing as how theres 24 hours a day, 8 hours for working, 8 hours to do as you please and 8 hours to sleep. its not hard to figure out.

They might be rich to begin with? Not sure, they could sell carries, but I doubt that is much for a living.

They could have other jobs?

I’m guessing: 8hrs of work, 8hrs of wow, 8hrs of sleep

At work rn :yawning_face::sleeping:

proper kiting and defense usage…oh wait you not talking about arena?

I’m guessing most of them work and make some money from sponsorship deals.

Streaming, youtube, guides, and under-the-table RMT for rating and/or coaching

Not a streamer but just on the topic of playing WoW all day, I mean I could see how it could be done even without living in your parents’ basement or having a bunch of roommates.

I work from home from 9-5:30 so no commute time. I usually get up around 6 so I’ve got 2.5-3 hours in the morning to myself before I clock in. Clock out at 5:30 then I’m up til about 12:30-1. So let’s say another 6 hours or so of available time. Plus my 30min lunch break and technically the ability to play WoW while I’m working (only do this rarely when I don’t have much to do and I mostly just pick flowers or do a dragon race or something easy if I do this).

So yeah I can see how you could spend 8+ hours a day on WoW, maybe even more if you don’t sleep 8 hours.

lol only total chads watch other people play old games

an impressive income comparable to BK manager, don’t contribute to these people.

it’s parents, every… single… time…

take a look at those that do disclose their info and make an educated guess, bro…

cope as hard as you want but when some of these people stream for 8-10 hours a day it’s doubtful they have another job, this is it, this is peak market value.

what does this even mean? are you okay in the head bro?

Getting your name out initially is the hardest part. After that, it’s just getting sponsorships and then advertising.

Then all you gotta do is not get yourself canceled or make boring content.
