How do people with actual lives enjoy the M plus gameplay loop?

Assuming you don’t have a ready made group, how do people with time constraints actually enjoy the loop of queueing, applying and getting rejected, accepted and then having a 50 percent chance of early leavers etc, restart. It’s like retail is just made for psychopaths who play a season for more than a month, because that queue gameplay loop is all that awaits you after a certain point,

People like different things. I only really dug into M+ during Season 3 of SL. Only to gear in order to help our guild raid group at the time.

For me there was no intrinsic reward to running M+. It was all extrinsic. The gear. I earned KSM that season and got the mount. I’ve never used it. Season 4 I did a few, and in DL the guild raid group disbanded.

That was me. There were others in the guild that lived for M+. I mean lived for it.

One of the guys in that guild had his account banned on a Friday morning by Blizzard. He just created a new account that same day. I think his time played by Monday evening was close to 60 hours. By the following Wednesday morning, 24 hours after Tuesday reset, he had KSM on 3 chars and portals on one of the three.

That was without boosts or buying tokens. Just straight up leveling 3 chars and playing them.

Some people put a lot of time in.

Some people really like M+.

Some people I know only play one evening a week. With a small group of friends. They get KSM every season, and maybe buy a Heroic raid clear. Maybe some portals too. They play what they want and don’t worry about the meta.

It is what it is.

It might be harder for some, but me personally? I set aside time, like say 2-3 hours or enough to do 4 dungeons, 2 times a week and if that is not enough, I try for 1-2 after my guild raids.

I do 2 days with dungeons, for my days off, and the days I work, I use that for my chores / reputation stuff cause its stuff I can hop in and out of quickly. I don’t even play a Meta Spec and get invited to groups constantly because I like to put myself out there, applying to everything I can, and if the group goes super smoothly and chill, I get people added to friends list for even easier invites the next time. At the end, I go, “If you need a Lock, send me a whisper and I’ll be down to push stuff.” Seems to get peoples attention, even if I’m not top DPS, I bring utility, know my class abilities, and knowledge to the group. I make sure I’m cursing bosses to reduce tank dmg, I’m using Defensives and pots to help the healer, I’m dealing with Xal’atath affixes, and cracking jokes with RP waits.

I’m also first one usually flying or there at the dungeon unless I’m the last one in the group and others are already there. Sometimes if I get declined after 20 - 30 mins applying, I post my own key, or ask my guild if any of them are looking to get a key or 2 done. Sometimes I just take it as a day to go farm old mog, mats for gold, etc…

TBF you aren’t really playing at the level where people are super strict about meta comps. OP is doing +14s, at that level you just do not get invited to pugs if you are not a meta spec, period. There just aren’t many groups ever in the group finder, so the ones that are in there can just pick whatever class they want.

the best M+ is done with the guild.

They are in a guild that actively participates in M+ with them.

I set a goal to hit 3k every season with no premade group but pugging and see how fast I can hit it with 2 hrs of game play per day. It is quite easy.

wow is life; life is wow…
delete this b4 they see this message, fast!

You’re playing a tank class champ. It’s ludicrous to say pugging is easy when the only way you’ve been able to do it is by switching to tank spec.

It’s not ludicrous. It’s a great illustration of the fact that there are choices people can make that will streamline their experience. I used to main a lock. I waited a long time for pug groups. I switched to prot pal and have much more fun. Someone who enjoys playing lock more than they hate waiting would make a different choice.

The thing is, playing as a tank is just a different game than playing as a DPS. You’re doing totally different things.

“Play tank” is simply not a solution to the question of “how to pug as a DPS”.

I enjoy both too, but playing my Prot Paladin is not a substitute for playing my main (I’ve always mained ranged DPS since TBC). It’s something I’ll do alongside it.

Yep, and one of the perks of doing all the tank responsibilities is not waiting for groups.

It’s not a solution to “how to pug as a DPS”, but it is a solution to “how to reduce wait times when pugging”.

Okay, so you choose ranged dps over tanking, and that’s fine. That decision comes with increased wait times when pugging. I mained lock since TBC and switched in BfA. It was the right choice for me, but not necessarily for everyone. The point is, it’s a choice. No one is required to play any specific role, we just have to accept all the pros and cons that come along with the choice we make.

Some people make friends along the way and group together. Others play roles that are easy to pug with.

Fail rate is also dependent on the key level. At a certain point even with full pre-mades you will have 50% pass/fail.

I play both, but tanking has its perk. If u don’t like to wait, than shoulder the task of being a tank instead of choosing the easiest role of DPS.

The game is designed to force you to do that. You only need 2 tanks in a 30 man raid. Not everyone can main a tank.

As long as Blizzard designs pure DPS classes, someone is going to be playing them.

Actually false unless M+ is the only content you do.

Tanking on a different character doesn’t fill my Warlock’s vault.

Yeah, there are those of us that are tanks most of the time, and it is what we prefer, but want to gear up an DPS or even healer alt. What are we to do when our tank toon is full vault and we want to get some gear for a non-tank character?

They don’t.

WoW isn’t designed to be a good game, it’s designed to be a social lubricant like alcohol. So you either use PuGs like speed dating to find a crew or you find something more productive to do with your life.

Thems the breaks.

Not actually false. No one in the game has class options blocked out on the creation screen or spec options turned off in game. Every single player is allowed to play whatever role they want whenever they want.

That’s not entirely true. Each key you tank is potentially 3 dps you won’t be queuing against on your warlock.
