Legit question. When pets account for the majority of your damage do you even feel like you are playing the game? To me this becomes baffling cause your character yourself is literally just bard for the minions that are obeying you. The damage from pets across the board seem from all pet classes just seem to heavily weighted to the pets versus the player. If you look at unholy DK their pets take over their meters same with BM hunters, Demonology locks. The damage imo should be closer to a 50/50 spec it should be free auto damage that the puppet master has no control over such as auto attacks and imps casting fireballs.
I guess it’s a perspective thing. If you own your pets, their damage is your damage. Also, most pet damage comes from work on your part, that you get by playing well. Like BM hunters, if they just send their pet on auto attack and don’t press kill command or buff their pets at all with their regular rotation, it’s going to be very low damage.
I used to hate pet classes but I fell in love with Demonology Warlock. Nothing changed, I just love how it feels. It doesn’t bother me at all. The minions are just my weapon, just like weapons and other abilities are for every other class. THEY ARE UNDER MY COMMAND AND I SHALL TEAR THROUGH MY ENEMIES WITH MY LEGION!
Press button. Do damage. Just like any other class. Pretend the pet is a spell effect. Mind blowing, I know.
well, when i play my bm hunter it feels very… natural, to me. it’s hard to describe, but back in MoP (and sort-of in current) i felt like me and my pet were a team whenever we fought things. like, i hit’em from a distance, while my pet rushes in biting/clawing the crap out of them, the way the class y’know, is supposed to feel. just me and my pet, against the elements!
when i play my warlock, it’s a different feeling. now, granted i play destro now, but only cause it’s faster than demo. demo is fun, cause it’s a build-up spec. building up tons and tons of imps, letting them harass the enemy, until i reach a critical mass of imps, and send’em flying at them as living ammunition! meanwhile, my void-walker’s there, being a living shield for me (yes demo gets a wrathguard but i just- it does’nt hold aggro enough).
and unholy dk… well, i never really focus on my pet with unholy dk. i just see the ghouls as side-effect of my abilities (mostly apocolypse), with the exception being army of the dead, cause i see that one as a ‘pulling out all the stops’ move.
Same, he’s just kinda hanging out, being a ghoul.
All that pet dmg actually comes from using active abilities.
Warlocks should be able to solo raid by summoning their own legion of demons and controlling them to do mechanics instead of casting shadowbolt.
It’s still your character doing damage though. It’s not like the pet is some kind of AI or npc that automatically does stuff for you. Also, one thing that got me hooked to pet classes was when I played city of heroes and my minions had collision. Lots of fun.
As others has said as well, your pet isn’t gonna do much if you just stand there and not press anything. I love my Moth on my BM Hunter, but god he is dumb.
My hunters have their pet damage spells on the Alt side of my hunters spells in the key binds.
I tried BM and think it’s one of the most boring classes in the entire game, but not because it’s a pet class.
Demo feels great overall, it’s just harder to get used to when you first start playing it. Plenty to do to keep you busy and make the tyrant windows feel rewarding, and not like the pet is carrying you.
I Just feel like the main actor of the the spec should be the player over the pet. For BM its different I feel versus Lock and Unholy DK because for the hunter the Pet assist the hunter. The pet auto attack damage doesn’t out shine the hunters, but for demo lock and unholy the pets auto attack damage does way to much in comparison to the player’s own. When there is like 66 cast of a spell and your pet do 1400% more than you. There is something a little skewed to hard away. Same thing with unholy DK when your pet hits harder than you there’s something fundamentally wrong with the class, and I’m talking about auto attacks.
You control the auto attacks of your pets? You have to physically put your pet into position, and keep them alive? I understand most classes have some control over pets, but minions not really. I can’t tell my army of the dead to stop attacking, or stand over there.
Try doing content with pet auto attacks and get back to me!
I miss my poo-flinging monkey pet for my Hunter
For me it was the aesthetic. At the end of the day, just like all classes, you have to press buttons to do anything. You’re not just hitting your pet attack button and sitting there cross eyed on BM Hunter you still had to do things. Personally I think the more recent iterations of BM have been boring as hell. I much preferred BM in WoD where your pet would build up stacks and then you’d take them in to increase your damage. It felt cohesive like you and your pet are working together. Wish they leaned on that more.

Am I doing the level 23 content you are doing on your warrior or am I doing something a little more challenging?
we’re not in TBC, pets are not doing any damage until you push button that deals their damage. Pets are nothing but pet-shaped projectiles.
You do realize those buddies are a team ,right? Besides it feels good to have pet run with you.
