How do people arrive at the % stats they want for BGs?

This can be for regular BGs or epic BGs. (I assume there’s a difference between the two when gearing?)

For example in epic BGs, two different meter topping boomies might have these stats:

  • Boomy A: 37% haste, 26% mastery, 10% vers, 9% crit

  • Boomy B: 30% haste, 14% mastery, 29% vers, 8% crit

Assuming they have essentially the same spec build, how do they determine how to prioritize their stats? I understand their embellishments and extra gem slots will also come into play; but how do they know how to proportion their secondary stats? Are they just doing PvE-style sims…?

Just curious if anyone has insight. thx

I’d say any ranged running heavy PvE stats and sacrificing versatility is doing so because they are coming in with a premade with dedicated healers and sticking to team fights.

idk which to prioritise and I dont know anyone else who does
i soft cap vers then go other stats myself
if its not optimal then whatever

its not like there are alot of choices for gear. there are only 2 options at the conq vendor besides cloaks.

We have more choices than ever before because of crafted gear. You can pick any two stats that you want. The engineering items also let you go heavy on one stat too.

i did say off the vendor

The conquest crafting mat is on the vendor, so it totally counts.

due to the stat DR the more you stack any single stat, your best gear for PVP is actually crafted gear. this will let you put more points into other stats instead of versa after you reach 30%.

Unless your stats are terrible in which case you ignore DR (WW, SV, Sub as examples)

Yes, good practice in general. In his example, however, he has someone with 10% versatility.

And ret, the stats are so much better than the tier set the tier set is a no go

On my disc priest i made a simulator to maximize my healing, balancing for DR. I ended up with vers up to 30%, then all mastery.

in the current state of the game, stats legit do not matter, just buy the gear with the secondaries that fit your playstyle and own.

Im probably one of the only people who has done this for epic bgs, it does help a little bit, but sims do not track pvp ilvl or work with pvp talents, so its not accurate at all.

Thank you all for the replies.

Yeah, in the example Boomy A is killing the meters but basically doing nothing else. I always wonder what happens to this player if he’s caught out in the open and his pocket heals aren’t close enough or are getting killed themselves. Boomy B does great damage, not necessarily #1, but can also handle actual PvP.

TBH I still wish option A just wasn’t viable. I like the idea that vers is essential for PvP and if you don’t have enough you drop like a stone regardless of pocket heals.

Class discords/YouTube/wowhead guides may offer some accurate info to get started. After that if you are not sure if you are getting the most out of your chosen stats, test that setup, then again after getting different allocated stats. Buying multiple items for the same slot with diffent stats helped me find out through my own testing what works best for my playstyle and talent choices(on Ret Paladin). When I was satisfied with me getting as powerful as I could this season, but was still dying in 2 seconds to hunters and HDH, I made a hunter. And the process starts all over in season 4.

all stats have a sweet spot. for instance… if you have 24 mastery… you may as well make sure its 25. if you have versitility at 39, you might at well make it 40.

given the nature of your accumlated buffs… you may reach these numbers already… so… that is how you build your toon… figure out the maximum reach of stats you have from buffs/procs… and then allocate the proper ammount into the stats. hope that makes sense. it’s min/maxing your stats, but accounting for buffs/procs to reach the “next sweet spot”.

it dusnt

well then you are a lost cause heh

From my end when I’m playing boomkin, stats nor meters don’t matter.

Every BG/EBG fight is situational.

I never run with a pocket healer, but I’m always appreciative of healers who throws me heals. If I die, it is solely my fault.

When I play with friends, I don’t even ask for heals. I’m not on discord to ask for heals either.

For rotations and stats, well, you gotta do your best to optimize your spec and play style. Play on your strengths, and stop copying cookie cutter builds.
