How do MSV stay alive?

If I were to wade in and out of melee as MM Hunter, I’d likely be dead sooner than the Mobs.
Do I get tougher, switching specs? Surely it’s not that trickle of health from spirit bond.
MSV seems to have more options than my bare-bones MM spec. I see now why peeps say its fun. Time has been lavished on this spec. An EPIC WASTE of TIME. My time.
My chosen spec, MM, has been marginalized, choked, while this zero is primped polished and pimped again and again. Whose child is this, that they try so hard for it to live?
Anyhow, whats the mechanism behind the improved survivability?

I mean, if they’re attacking you, specifically, maybe, but MM has times when it should be weaving into melee, too: Healing Rain, Power Word: Barrier, Spirit Link Totem, Bursting Shot, and pre-fix Brutalizing Projectiles Rapid Fire Trick Shots all frequently required it of you.

You know what… nah. Just, nah.

Does an iconic “Survivalist” become inherently more resilient, or are they defined by their tactics? Note also that the specialization for Beast Masters is called Beast Mastery and Marksman are defined by their Marksmanship

I’m not sure the game developers understood the definition of “survival” when they remade the spec, it certainly is not based around surviving.

However I don’t feel I have issues surviving. It would help if I knew the content you where focused on to give better pointers. but here are some quick tips.

Leveling/questing= Misdirect and taunt, that’s it.

Dungeons= Kicks, traps, binding shot, exhilaration, feign death, intimidation and turtle. apply as needed.

Pvp= like dungeons but add roar

Above all I would say being aware of your surrounding and dodging effects is paramount. Don’t be afraid to run way out of melee range to save your self, it does very little to hurt your damage as survival.

I’m assuming you mean pvp. The short answer is do the opposite of what your opponent does. So if they’re melee stay ranged. If their ranged go melee.

I know what you’re thinking: but how do I kill with just ranged when Eagle is down?

You don’t

Is there ever a time to melee attack a melee?
Yes when it’ll finish them off or force a major defensive.

Nothing about playing Surv makes you more survivable and it’s a problem. Not just for the name of the spec but for the fact that even in vanilla we had increased utility and control AND more hp and dodge in the tree.

Im sorry what? Do you have any idea how much more attention MM has gotten compared to SV? Take several seats please.

MSV doesn’t have much trouble surviving…

You have all your basic pet-tanking stuff, which is more than most classes get. You have Exhilaration for a powerful heal, Intimidate for a stun, Disengage if you’re being overwhelmed, Feign Death, Frost Trap if you pull a mob you didn’t mean to, and even Oil Trap to start kiting if need be.

In what universe is that not a playable tool kit to help you survive?

Maybe you’re just playing in scenarios I’m unfamiliar with, but I have never really had any trouble surviving as MSV. And those rare instances I don’t are ones where I would have died as any other class anyway (except maybe Prot Paladin - those guys are ridiculously resilient).

Glad to hear you’re having fun though!

I think as a PvP talent they should have something that takes time off of Eagles CD every time you use a ranged spell. Would make weaving between ranged/melee more fun and allow for more high pressure from range, or make melee abilities increase ranged dmg for X seconds.

I personally am enjoying SV. It’s a nice change of pace from BM…although I do wish my pet in SV could maintain AoE aggro. I seem to have issues with that.

Once you get the Wildfire Cluster legendary, small stuff dies really fast to AoE. For big stuff, you have to work your Misdirection, Feign Death and pet target switching to pick up mobs with Growl.

Thank you, I’d actually forgotten about MD with SV!

tbh i don’t think they thought any farther than “lets make this one melee”. it was always meant to be taken as a survivalist rather than being able to facetank everything.

Thinking was defiantly not on the table. Lets take a look at new class implantation.

WOTLK= DK a melee with a tank OS
Mist= Monk a melee with a tank OS
Legion= DH a melee with a tank OS

Developers: “Guys, I think we need another melee…”

There is no rational line of decision making that even hints this was a good idea.

Dots bombs (possibly chakrams) and killshot.

Oh… and KC
