Hey guys!
I’ve been tanking a few dungeons on my warrior alt and have run into an infuriating little issue that’s caused me to wipe more times than I’d like to say. When a mob dies with another mob right on top of it, right clicking the living mob to try to start attacking it defaults to right clicking the dead mob so I can loot it. This is driving me crazy because instead of getting the quick sunder on the mob that the group is switching to my character spends ~1 second in the looting animation before I can right click the living mob to whack it and gain some threat.
In retail vanilla right clicking when the two were on top of each other defaulted to right clicking the living mob to start attacking. I understand classic is built on the legion client and some (a lot) of the things have been left in.
is there an option to disable this and make my right clicks start attacking the enemy that’s alive? I can’t find it in the interface settings and I don’t know of any addon that does it.
If there’s no option I’d like to suggest one is put in. This is really an unacceptable change to the game. When tanking I can’t be using tab targeting cause I might break sheeps/other CC which could be another reason I’d wipe.

I have S bound to target closest MOB, which will be what is right in front of me
It avoids the loot fiasco you mention
If you look in keybinds, there are a number of targeting keys you can set up.

OMG, this is infuriating. I have select closest enemy bound to my ~ key.
#showtooltip Sunder Armor
/startattack
/cast [nodead] Sunder Armor
Thanks for the suggestions,
while these are all wonderful suggestions on how to target nearest enemy and attack, none of these are solutions, as they have a chance of breaking sheep which I explained was my reason for not wanting to use tab or target nearest enemy functions in my original post.

You could always back up a step. The living mob should follow you and then not be right on the dead one.
First thing I have Always seen tanks do if a cc was applied near them was move the mobs away from the cc. Why are you tanking right next to the cc?
they wont break sheep, or should not, i have not had that problem.
Unless the sheep is the mob standing right in my face? and i decide to attack him even though i see red ring jump to a sheep.
You might try a quick small resposition, sidestep or backwards?
The issue you are having is not a new issue, that has happened from day 1 through retail right now.
The things suggested are pretty much how everyone else works with it.
I mean you can guaranteed make it not happen ever, click loot control and pick pass, but that is a bit drastic cause you never get anything.
how are you going to backpedal if you Unbinded S key ?

i do not use wasd, never ever have in all the history of gaming
forward = Z
backpedal = CTRL +Z
sidestep left = X
sidestep right = C
sit = V
auto walk = B
1 - 7
Q - Y
A - H
Are all casts or combat functions.
And technically, if i need to, i can do all the movement functions from my mouse
it hasn’t happened since day 1. The change came some time in cata, MOP, or wod. whenever they implemented the group loot feature.
once you build threat on the main target you should be tab cycling and hiting each mob once at a time… if a mob is down to 20% hp and you still have threat then you dont need to keep attacking that mob, target the next one and apply a sunder before your group starts hitting it, then start cycling through the mobs again…
all the people offering suggestions, while helpful, dont get to the root of the problem that this is bad game design that corpses are clickable over living mobs in the same area.

then stop clicking and start tabbing…
literally this is what I’m trying to avoid. The game is choosing my right clicking the mob to instead right click the corpse underneath the mob and I’m asking how to disable that and return it to the way it was in vanilla world of warcraft.
Dont tank right next to cc’d targets or turn your back to the cc’d target so you cant accidently hit it.
Just conc blow and loot. Or just loot and don’t die?? Why are you dying so quickly lol
