I want to play fire mage. Im consistently at the bottom with it though. Then i join a m+ and the fire mage next to me is dropping 60-100k+ dps consistently.
Not sure exactly what im missing but it seems like a massive difference lol

In M+ you need to essentially drop all crit off of your gear in exchange for haste and mastery to do good damage in dungeons as fire.
Crit is garbage in all situations so you should not really be stacking it anyways. It’s haste all the way, for all content. The only thing that changes is mastery is a little better than vers for M+.
It’s hard to tell you anything without logs. I’d just recommend you double-check your combustion rotation is correct. Also you’re not taking Flame Strike right? It’s currently bait. Fire does its best AOE by just doing it’s ST rotation and relying on Ignite to spread. This will change in 10.1.5 when they baseline Flame Strike and focus on adjusting the AOE rotation specifically.
Oh, you also probably need to use TellMeWhen or WA2 to track Sun Kings Blessing if you’re not already.
I really hope this is the case. With ROP gone, I feel that there would be a lot of players (myself included) who would love to give Fire a whirl if there were options for dungeons that didn’t involve SKB/Pyroclasm. Wrath-Legion AoE for Fire felt pretty good to play around, and then they broke it and made it unfun. Considering how derptastic the AoE rotation is for other spec who can pump out big numbers, there’s no reason for Fire to be the way it is. I want to actually play the game, not sit there watching for a WA to tell me to do stuff.
With the 10.1.5 PTR notes just out (today?), removing pyroclasm and having a viable choice on the node with SKB (at least it looks viable certainly) - it’s making fire look awfully nice for me to get back into.
Yeah i have the single target build. Im only up to +9 keys atm, all the adds seem to be falling over and im stuck at 11k dps. Idk when to pop combustion because i feel like the mobs are dead and i wasted it.
Sometimes i see myself doing 50-60k but that was with low ilvl gear before i switched to frost
Its because the people left playing fire at this point just prefer the spec over all. We are not the meta, the top, and we are broken but our fires will always burn bright… even if it doesn’t cleave like the days of old
How long have you been playing fire for? It takes ages to get good at fire unless you’re naturally gifted and can pick any spec up within a few days. It’s all the small things that add up to getting you consistent high overall. I wouldn’t expect much if you only just started playing this version of fire. Practice your combustion and SKB every time you pass the dummies and it’ll slowly help with memorizing your rotation.
Ive used the same hot keys for the same spells since late Wrathish. So i just adapt to whatever playstyle they change it to every expansion. Use IcyVeins for stats, builds, knowledge. This, btw, is probably the worst fire has been its very hard to keep on when you can do half the activity on a SPriest for instance and do double the damage. However nothing holds my enjoyment like my trusty.
Join us on the altered time discord! I have a folder with a bunch of screengrabs for most scenarios that I’d be happy to send your way. From opener to combust entry to how to keep up feel the burn, and exploiting the spell queue window to squeeze out an extra Hot Streak! conversion to all of those things over again depending on if you have lust, double lust, PI and tier! Fire mage is one of the hardest (if not the hardest) specs in the game. And it’s incredibly punishing to make even a small mistake because so much of your kit involves CDR and maintenance debuffs that stack quickly in combustion and do nothing outside of it. Messing up your bustion, dropping FtB, missing an SKB proc all have cascading effects on your damage as you miss the initial damage from the missed proc AND you miss the CDR you’d get by doing it correctly. Honestly I still suck (I took a break since shadowlands) but I’m getting it back.
Feel free to PM me here too. I’m happy to help

Playing for clout? Play the Rube Goldberg Fire Mage Machine. Playing for fun? Maybe try anything else.
