I’m a warlock, the map is nagrand, my partners is a boomy and hpal. I’m facing warrior any spec and mm/bm hunter. I put port behind the nearest pillar and gateway from pillar to pillar or pillar to out in open(tried both but I get destroyed either way).
What usually happens is warrior pushes in with all cds, I port away, he then leaps to me, the hunter opens from stealth, or they stun me on my port, I either get freedom or gate away, I’m now kinda kiting the warrior but now that I’m in the open I’m taking Aimed shots. I’m playing short port so I port back behind the pillar. I’m avoiding the hunter now the warrior has 100% uptime now. Enemy healer is also comfortable on opposite pillar avoid cc. If I think about crossing map my healer eats traps and I take mega damage from hunter. Where do I stand?!
This won’t be as accurate as i’d like it to be ( mainly coz i dont know where ur healer and boomy are positioned or if they have their ccs bound).
Assuming ur druid is positioned offensively in stealth somewhere in center field between enemy healer and warrior.
Your best starting position is the starting area ( closest to the outter wall as possible, with ur port being on left pillar (slight los) and gateway to the center right.
You want to stretch that warrior as far out of position as possible and try to snare him before he connects to guatantee he uses his first charge ( this is crucial).
I’d also recommend u use succubus for this specific match up if it’s a shuffle round. If it isn’t then i’d run imp for the initial trap dispel then swap to succubus or felhunter depending on whether the boomy is cloning properly.
You basically want to clone the MM during trueshot ( he’s gonna trinket the first one vs ur comp so triple clone mandatory) and try to port the gap between clone downtime.if u r using succubus now is the best time to seduce the healer who’s now overextended chasing the warrior in ur starting area.
Boomy shoulda poped cds by now and assuming the healer doesn’t instan trinket the first seduce that warrior should be around 50% hp either forced to defensive stance or risk it.
This would be a great time to clone warrior which has obviously already used his reflect first global coz 2iq zug which gives u momentum to build some pressure on hunter and wait for healer to drop.
If warrior trinkets ur win condition is on next coil/hoj with a seduce/rep on healer to finish.
Edit: this is obviously an incomplete breakdown as im missing quite a lot of info but generally if hunter’s running diamond ice don’t hesitate to wall and pact to save ur pallies trinket for sac later. With druid trying to control hunter’s go it should be more than enough to survive the initial go.
Try to setup kill windows every 45s around coil/hoj on kill target, avoid impulse coiling or ccing healer outside these windows, u want full dr reset every go.
first off the com,p is jsut bad unforchy due to the fear/clone sharing DR, imagine if you had a mage and they did this the mage way easier to punish them
Boomy needs to run disarm and rotate it with clones on off targets till you’re able to get your damage out. Between that, axe toss, coil, howl, port you should get breathing room
Contrary to the melee here, you aren’t kiting that comp if they’re awake.
Play purely reactively and defensively, with every trade against their big CDs. Also it’s not much of a winnable thing. Swap out that moonkin with any spec of rogue.
As a general rule id have gateway go from close pillar to close pillar. You play your pillar, line the hunter, kill the warrior. ONLY clone cds and healer cc, boomy boxes out healer and do big dam. This is a situation where its good for your healer to be in the open and NOT on a pillar, likely back in the starting room so you have the ability to shark around the backside of the pillar to line the hunter and you cross pillars and rotate when the hunter pushes in too far.
I like to run back to entry room, because the hunter will have to push in and the warrior will have to go with you, leading their healer off opposite pillar and into mid map. This also should help your healer have a pillar while healing you.
From here, I can also teleport to the pillar and use it to LoS the hunter and the charge, or CC/kick their healer who should be somewhat close to me after my port.
I still lose this game 90% of the time, and generally my healer either loves the ports or hates them (what else is new), but I find I live longer generally and have had most success this way.
Also I play affliction, so I can focus on my insta dots to maintain pressure in these scenarios. I find some sort of dome, earthen, etc in this room with me can help turn the tide of the fight and keep my CDs while positioning their team awkwardly.
Im intrigued to see other answers because I hate this matchup myself, and have a low success rate.
Sounds like how it feels to play a shadow priest. Sometimes if you’re not just immediately dying, you have to plant your feet and try to do as much dps back at the enemy to get them to retreat until their next go. If you pull them away from their healer, and assuming your team cc’s the enemy healer as well, that’s really your best bet id say. Trying to kite them is going to make you very annoyed. It sucks to have to rely on your team to be smart enough to help peel for you, I fully understand your pain.
And you will still be lower on damage, but that’s okay. You can’t play to win on overall damage because you’re a warlock vs a fury warrior. You WILL lose trades.
The most important thing is to pretend you’re RMP and be super intentional with your DRs. You never want to stun just for peel, you need to be aggressive on every axe toss or you’ll just lose slowly.
Ideally you get one big go on the opener, start ramping your demons and WHEN THE WARRIOR POPS CDS, use grimoire, axe toss, and coil to lock him down while your boomy and healer cc enemy healer and try to kill him.
Ideally you want to get wall and/or trinkets. ONCE YOU GET A MAJOR CD IF YOU CAN’T KILL THROUGH, clone him and the hunter once each. Do NOT over clone. You need to have DRs constantly rotating and NOT give them prolonged periods of uptime.
Don’t just cc for cc, make sure to communicate with your boomy and tell him you have a stun coming up and that he needs to cc the healer.
STRONGLY recommend AGAINST this. This is letting you get blasted, while giving the enemy hunter AND healer a safe pillar to play from while also being in range of the warrior.
Against this, as boomy/warlock, your kill target should be the hunter. This will delay hunter traps because if your healer is positioned properly, the hunter must cross you and your boomy to get to the healer.
Set your ports on the left pillar, and gate to the right facing the starting room.
Kiting Path
On Nagrand, start where the stealth eye spawns
After you port, briefly LoS the warrior to force him to use his Heroic Leap to connect to you. If he has no heroic leap, he will swap targets; otherwise, chasing you becomes a DPS loss.
After you port walk to the opposite side from where you were. You can either kite towards the middle of the map or LoS the hunter behind the pillar and eat the warrior damage while your Healer is in CC. It’s perfectly fine to do this because 1 dps hitting you is better than 2.
After your healer gets out of CC, resume your DPS rotation at the maximum range of your portal, either in the open or near the pillar. Just make sure you’re in a spot where the warrior can’t freely charge you after you port. We want to make them use Leap as soon as possible.
Rinse and repeat. After you port, kite to the left side of the map if your previous spot was the right.
The left/right kiting path makes maximum space between you and the warrior. The last thing you want to do is port, then kite back to where you stood before. You’re pretty much running towards the damage instead of away from it.
Yeah, I usually just bait the warrior in to get the healer off the opposite pillar, then teleport and LoS to leave the warrior in Africa. I don’t like to get comfortable for that reason exactly.
The game feels bad no matter what I do, never fun being the target vs those guys. But I’m intrigued to try what you recommend earlier.
I think in hpal lock vs any fury warr matchup u wanna play longate and rotate through 60 second longgate, port, giga freedom, and seering glare then coil the dispel to deny the fury warr as much uptime as possible (mainly during his burst windows with avatar/reck)
don’t try to kite if your port is on cd it’s The only button u have to get away from warrior. go from pillar to pillar between gate and port cd but don’t bother running otherwise, it is pointless and giving them free lead over your momentum. litterally jsut stand at the pillar and los the hunter and let the pally heal thru the warrior dmg, while your partners peel for you. optimally your hpal will hoj the warrior behind the pillar so you can instant axe toss the hunters opener
