You definitely need to watch videos and read some WoW wikipedia articles to get all of it.
But I definitely recommend this addon and reading the quest text for the current expansion, it helps a lot to figure out what’s going on with the lore:
Part of the process could be level to say 30 to 40 in classic.
to see the pre cata wow. TBH…my full by hand from 1 to 80 leveled hunter did enjoy that bit. Night elf land before the dragon was nicer.
Dragon and or/race changes beyond 30 get more subtle, to me. And possibly better. NGL, I prefer cata’s changes to eastern plaguelands. that leads off for alliance with now Fiona there. Her and her 2 paladin traveling companions quest strings I will say make that place much better for me.
Humans too can be a well this is different. that even starts at level 1. Defias is in the vineyard. Not orcs.

Step 3* it’s been 5 hours why are you still on your couch?
There is no lore anymore
My version of wow:
You log in. You get three choices at the menu. Play classic. Play modern or condense all cut scenes in the game to make one complete movie.
Now if blizz can do that!! That would be cool.
You’d be better off getting a TL;DR of main story events from someone tbh. Playing linearly just… doesn’t work well in this game. Patch Content specifically will be a massive mess to figure out where to go next, (and some of it will just be missing, like the patch 5.3 stuff transitioning into Siege of Orgrimmar).
And you’d have to do it all at max level since patch content isn’t scaled, which makes actually PLAYING it no fun. You’d be 1-shotting everything.
Normal leveling skips patch content so you miss massive amounts of context and conclusions to things.
