Anytime I see something like this, I always give the most realistic answer I can give. That being to pick a main based on all things including race, aesthetic value, fun, etc.
Prior to making Shadina, I had been in a similar boat. I had no idea what I wanted to play and just made a lot of alts, always defaulting back to my warrior. I had made priests of other races, but I just couldn’t get into the groove, and I had been a troll in Vanilla.
But one day at three in the morning, I made Shadina, and instantaneously I fell in love with everything about the character. From casting animations to the spellbook, to reading into the priestly ways online, etc. It was the best feeling, and since then, I knew Shadina would be my main. And I’ve mained her since the middle of BC.
So I would try to find that feeling. Capture that, and you’ll find your main.
If that’s your goal i’d try to find a guild who’s raid schedule works for you. Or join a M+ discord. Plenty of groups/guilds out there are recruiting for Shadowlands atm so it’s the perfect time since you won’t be expected to be super geared at first. That way you can find out what the guild group needs, or what roles are missing in the discord.
If you set your heart on a DPS warrior and end up benched all the time because your guild has too many melee, that will sour what should be an enjoyable experience for you.
Realize that fundamentally the gameplay of every single class role is the same. They all have more in common than they have different. Just pick a class based on what theme you most gel with and just stick with it.
Pretty hard to balance four specs and pretty entitled to even expect that when classes like monk and shaman are lucky to have one okay spec every expac.
If three of four specs are pretty good, and one is still okay… you don’t have a valid complaint when there are several classes who have been crapped on for the last couple expansions.
A druid should never be complaining about anything. I love my druid, if I enjoy a spec, but don’t have the gear to play effectively, you can switch to another spec until you have sufficient gear.
Not sure why you expect all four specs to be the best at everything.
Depends on what you want to do. Are you going to raid or do m+ ? Tank dps or heal? If you want to dual role make sure you enjoy the specs of the class you will be playing.
Personally I’m looking to tank and dps in SL. I’ve narrowed it down to DK or warrior because they are the only tank class that I actually enjoy the dps specs as well.
If you are just going to do wqs and casual stuff play what is the most fun for you. It doesn’t really matter.
I can also get behind in gear and honestly I believe stretching yourself thin results in lack of specialized knowledge on what you play instead of just playing everything “passable”
That being said, currently trying to reduce what I want to main, currently bouncing between 4 DPS, 3 ranged 1 and 1 melee.
I do not know if I want to raid or M+ more as I have not really done either but I know I want to PvE DPS. I have no established groups and I have 1 friend I can do M+ with, otherwise I would need to be scouring for a guild.
