How do I make gold?

I started classic two days ago and I’m leveling a mage. I’m having a blast but I’m running low on gold. How do I earn gold at a low level 16? I’m currently a tailor but none of my stuff sells for anything. Any help is appreciated, thank you!

I’m not an expert at all really, but at level 16 your options are probably going to be limited. Also crafting professions can be gold sinks while leveling, it might be better to consider gathering professions and just sell what you gather.

I’m making sure to only use what I earn from loot. I’m worried that I won’t have enough for my mount at 40. Will gold making pick up?

unless you have a friend who will take you through low level instances so you can grind non stop and get tons of cloth from it you’re better off dropping tailoring now and picking up mining and skinning. selling everything you get on the ah and then dropping one or both and picking up tailoring and whatever else you want at cap. right now i have a shaman who is herb/skinning and i’ve given all my herbs and a lot of gold + bought 14 slot bags for me and all my wifes alts and i have 40g right now at level 25. if i hadn’t given her all that stuff i’d have way more than 100g right now.

Which is good but you’re still using those mats for your tailoring rather then just selling it. Also the cost to learn tailoring recipes adds up.

i just noticed your name. the fact you’re helping someone out on the forums is amusing to me. but then again they’re alliance so you’re not gonna pwnthemrofl. :stuck_out_tongue:

I just started fresh on a new server lvl 19 and have made 22 gold. Been mining and skinning and selling the mats in AH. While i will switch to tailor at 60 for now i just bank all my cloth.

Funny thing is profession mats are now valuable since people are prepping for bc. Skinning, herbalism, mining etc will all be valuable for a lowbie because these mats have increased in price

Drop tailoring, go skinning/mining or skinning/herbs. Herbs makes more money though, especially when you quest in Loch Modan and Duskwood (for Alliance). You get to pick Briarthorn, Swiftthistle and Grave Moss, all which sell for decent money.

I started a brand new hunter maybe a week or week and a half ago, went skinning and herbing, and I’m level 26 with 36 gold. This is basically a brand new start, no money or anything from a higher level character. I’m not sure how exactly this is but to me it seems pretty good, and the amount of work for this has been minimal. I’ve been very pleasantly surprised by how much I’m able to make from herbs. The leathers I’ve still been mostly vendoring at this point.

Another important thing to keep in mind when trying to make money while leveling is to be very selective with what skills you buy. I’ve been leveling a hunter so I know hunters maybe have an easier time of this then some classes, but I’ve basically only been buying the new upgrades to the skills I use on every mob, so arcane shot, serpent sting, hunters mark. Anything else outside of that, for the most part, I’ve skipped. If you just buy all your skills/spells you’ll just spend all your money.

the only classes that can just spend whatever they want on spells and still get a mount at 40 without using any type of gathering profession at all are pally, and warlock. since there’s are cheap/free. thats a good point.

Pick up gathering professions and sell the ore/herbs/skins. One thing you can do if you are running low on gold in your late 30’s and you want to make sure you have money for a mount, back in the old days we would go to the kolkar camp in desolace and farm silk, make them into bandages. From 36-39 we’d end up with enough gold from selling silk bandages and the drops we got to get our 40 mount. It was boring grinding, but it worked.

Take up mining and skinning.

It definitely picks up a lot from quest rewards and drops and such as you level up.
