How do I hop layers?

I know a lot of people don’t like layer hopping. And I’ve honestly never given a second thought until now… but the spot i’m aoe farming has someone griefing now. And having someone kite mobs under me trying to get me killed is getting a bit old. I went and did a couple hours of questing and he’s still there failing to aoe farm and dying 90% of the time…

So how do I get off this hellhole of a layer and get back to farming?

being one of the few players that could really care less because Im enjoying classic so much regardless. I believe the only way to force it is by joining a group of a player in a different layer. Usually a guild mate I would assume

You have to log out for a minimum amount of time (sorry, I forget how much). During beta, players discovered they could log out, immediately log back in, be in a different layer, and gather the same ore/herb/whatever over and over again. To defeat this, Blizzard made it so you have to be logged out for roughly the same amount of time as it would take for the resource to respawn; if you log back in too quickly, you stay in the layer you were in.

This was all in a blue post somewhere - maybe in the Q & A sticky at the top of this forum.

Edit

There is another way: if someone in a different layer invites you to group, you’ll jump to their layer.
