How do I get something crafted?

I’ve got all the mats for a rank 5 sword for my DH, but can’t for the life of me find somebody to craft it. No, I don’t know anybody in the game. I can’t set the quality to rank 5 in public crafting orders for some bizarre reason, so it seems my only option is to stand in trade chat and spam my request over and over? Kinda freaking out because I spent all my gilded crests on the enchanted crest and just assumed somebody would be able to craft, but am perplexed by the lack of public order ability.

BTW, if anybody can make a 675 Everforged Longsword on Horde side on Proudmoore, I’d love you forever, and send tip of course.

That’s odd, generally I’ve not had too many troubles finding someone to craft something if I can’t make it myself, especially if it’s not a rare pattern. Doesn’t proudmoore have a decent population? I assume you’re posting during times that have a decent amount of players on?

Horde is smaller, I’ll try again tomorrow evening during the peak evening hours.

You are already doing what you can to get the sword crafted with public orders.

Keep in mind you can make it as a guild order too which allows you to be cross server and cross faction.

It’s the time of night when the population drops so that makes it more difficult to find someone.

Ah gotcha. If you need to, you could make an alliance alt and advertise there if it’s alliance dominant. You can do crossfaction crafting orders if they are on your server or in your guild.

Oh yeah advertising alliance side might work. My guild is mostly just me and I’m primarily on Alliance side so I’ll try that too. I’ve never had anything crafted before, but decided to splurge. What is a recommended tip rate so I don’t seem rude to someone crafting a sword

Also thanks for the replies everyone.

Tips vary a lot I think. When I’m crafting for others I always say tip whatever you can afford that doesn’t break the bank.

I’ve had some people tip 25k at the start of the expansion for a 5 star max ilevel item when skill is hard to come by, but I wouldn’t say that’s the norm. I’d say if you’re looking for a max ilevel item at this point somewhere in the 3-5k range would be totally fine (or at least I’m fine with that). If someone has to burn inspiration due to material quality or other factors, then I would increase the tip.

Of course I’ve had people tip 50g or less while wanting max ranks and I think that is kind of silly. I mean a single world quest that takes 3-5 minutes can reward like 800g, so I think that perspective helps.

can someone craft it lower ilvl than you want if you use the order system? like, griefing? that’s what makes me scared to try public order stuff when i hear about not being able to set the level

You can’t set a rank / Ilvl in public orders so someone can accept the order even if they can’t do max. That is why public orders are primarily for items with no ranks or stuff where rank isn’t a big issue such as items that may be replaced rapidly.

I have gotten seven 675 Two-Handed Weapons crafted for my main and alts.

What I do is go to the crafting station, prepare my order, setting it up as a rank 5 personal order and put into trade chat:

LF Crafter [ Link to the Item ] 10K Tip.

I usually get a crafter responding right away, or within 5 minutes.

DO NOT MAKE A PUBLIC ORDER.

Assuming you provide best quality mats, or at least the quality the personal crafter asks for, a 1000g tip is adequate IMO. The really good tippers are in the range of 5k, just for info.

Ja ja. I would for sure do R5 there.

I feel like you’d get LESS whispers if you put “giving away free 2k to first 10 people to whisper me” in trade compared to “LF Crafter for X item”.

Every time I ask to get something crafted, I get about 20 literally instant whispers.

If you are in your own guild, you can gquit and briefly join a cross faction guild with a lot of crafters and get it done via guild order.

If you are super desperate to get it done, I have a blacksmith on Aegwynn who can do it via guild order. Actually that guild is run by a master crafter. You can always join and leave when the job is done.

This is super helpful. I’ve been wanting to do this as well, but all the guides I’ve seen don’t cover the “human” aspect of getting a top-quality item crafted, and it has always just felt risky. This thread seems to have enough info to bridge that gap, so I feel comfortable trying to get a 675 weapon.

Cant you set a minimum quality in public orders though?

Nope can’t set the rank / ilvl in public orders , blizz has even addressed this saying it’s intended and that personal or guild orders are meant to be used to get specific outcomes like max rank items.

Ugh I am still confused here. Trying to follow this advice:

but I can’t mock an order that makes sense. I am trying to get a 2h staff for my druid, but when I bring up the Bounding Vagabond’s Baton, I don’t see any place to add my Enchanted Gilded Undermine Crest, nor my Missive of the Fireflash. So my mock order looks like ilvl 632, whereas I’m going for 675.

Anybody have any advice or links to something that explains this? I have all the mats, the enchanted gilded crest, the missive and plenty of gold to tip… just can’t figure out how to create a link to the 675 weap that I want to request to be crafted.

mock it by adding all the ingredients in the crafting station (same window you would send it to someone with)

add your crest
set to personal, set minimum to 5*

the item should now should 675, shift click that to link it into trade

at least that’s how it works for recrafting, hopefully it works the same for crafting
