How do i get past the ilvl 384 BS crafted armor?

How do i get past the ilvl 384 armor crafting for my Blacksmith? I have almost the entire Armorsmith maxed out, except the individual pieces have zero points in them yet. Do i need to put points in those? If so, how many does it take to get to the ilvl 392ish armor? Should i be drinking some sort of potion while making the armor? I always use the highest level mats. Should i be using lesser mats?

Kind of lost now since i have been only concentrating on opening the 3 sub specializations after the first 30 points in armor smithing.

You need to put points into each item to continue to improve your skill in crafting each piece. There are also 30 points in Hammer Control to improve general purpose smithing skill as well.

How many points in each piece will get me to the next ilvl? Thats what i need to know. The guide i was following doesnt get that far in giving that info.

If you know, it would be so appreciated.

Open your smithing window. Look at the recipe you want to craft. Mouse onto the sliding scale. It will tell you how much skill you need to craft the next tier. Compare that to your ‘Skill’ four lines above that.

Necessary Skill - Current Skill = Needed Skill

Go to your specialization trees. Most of them give a +5 skill bonus for each 5 KP spent on that armor piece.

Needed skill - (X + funky bonus math) = points you spend for that item.

My smith needs 224 skill for T4 Greatbelt. She has 187 skill. 224-187=37.

She must spend 22 points into Belts (22 points +15 bonus skill from those points) to guarantee the T4 craft.

You can use the same arithmetic for yours. I haven’t found an addon or website that lists because of the possible combinations that you can use to arrive at each solution.

Also note that the materials themselves can add skill points. Using rank 1 materials gives you 0 skill, using all rank 2 materials gives you 12.5% of the base difficulty as skill, and using all rank 3 materials gives you 25% of the base difficulty as skill. So for example, using all rank 3 mats on the primal molten defender will net you 280*0.25 = 70 skill towards the craft.

If you want to craft any slot guaranteed at max level you need to
fill out all 3 nodes on the way to and including that slot
fill out the first node of hammer control
use an insight (+30 skill)
use all rare BS profession equipment (+22 skill total)

Thank you both for the explaining it to me. What a crazy system lol.

What is an insight if i might ask? Not in game atm, is that the Primal from like max renown?

Thanks again.

Every crafter can spend some Artisan’s Mettle to craft an “Illustrious Insight” which is used by the crafter (not provided by the customer) in one of the far right side optional slots that only the crafter sees. You can probably already craft it. To use one, you generally have to have your specific slot fully or near fully talented as one of the spikes on the talent wheel says something like “able to use Illustrious Insight to improve blah blah blah”. You can’t use one until you talent it and each slot is individually unlocked.

Thanks, i did find them. Do not yet know what profession makes them. Still checking them out.

Just looked in the crafting window, and ya need 20 points in each item slot to use one lol. How did players max out their knowledge that far as to make stuff above ilvl 384 at the end of the first week?

Unreal how few points are around unless you are really lucky with RNG Knowledge drops.

20 points into a specific slot also teaches you how to make one for yourself since they are BoP.

Once you are over 50 BS skill, you should be earning 10 KP per week. 3 each from the three weekly quests, and one drop while you’re doing the killing associated with one of the quests. It is possible to get up to 15 per week, but that can require a fairly significant time investment due to RNG.

Each week as a 50 skill BS, you get
1 quest to make something blacksmithing for 3 knowledge
1 quest to kill things and collect items for 3 knowledge
1 quest to complete 3 work orders for 3 knowledge
2x 1 knowledge drops from expedition backpacks and dirt piles (good drop rate)
1 knowledge point drop from fire elementals (good drop rate)
1 knowledge point drop from earth elementals (good drop rate)
= 13 knowledge points weekly

In addition, there are 8x blacksmithing items you can collect (1 time each) for 3x points each (24 total points). There is also a hidden BS NPC in waking shore that gives you 5 knowledge points (one time only).
= 29 one time knowledge points

you get knowledge points each time you craft something for the first time (use the “first time crafts” filter in your BS journal.

You get multiple BS knowledge point tokens from Maruuk Centaur and Valdraken (renown 14 and renown 24)

You can buy up knowledge point tokens 3 times from the artisan’s consortium rep vendor as well.

You can get pretty far in just 2 weeks if you really buckle down and focus on it for sure.
