I went there, did three invasion points, hearthed back to Dalaran to take a short cut back but the teleporter isn't by the flight master. I can see other people using it but it's not appearing for me. How do I make the teleporter appear or get back another way?

If you didn't do the introductory quests to actually establish beacons on argus, then you'll probably have to travel all the way back to exodar and speak to velen to get back up there. Or get somebody to warlock summon you in.

So you didn't set your hearthstone there like I do for all my chars?
I have no idea - the teleporter appeared even for the alts that just went there and didn't finish the first part.
Open a ticket, I guess.

You have to do the questline there up until Krokuun Hovel I think for the teleporter to show
I think you can go back to stormwind harbor, and talk to the npc that teleported you to the exodar

I forgot to set my hearthstone as soon as I got there. So I indeed had to go all the way back to the Exodar to get back. Thanks for the advice. <3
You can unlock the portals both ways (dalaran<-->vindicaar) in about 10 minutes. Here are the steps:
Step 2 is doing the "The Hand of Fate" quest, which should pop up for you in Dalaran. It has you go to stormwind/orgrimmar (optionally use the portals in Dalaran), then to a boat there, which takes you to the Exodar city. You go inside, turn in the quest to Velen, who gives you another to click a big crystal, that you turn into a standard Argus portal that you take to the Vindicaar.
Step 3 on the Vindicaar - to unlock 4 things [the innkeeper, the nether forge, the portal to dalaran on the vindicaar, and the portal in dalaran to the vindicaar] turn in your quest to Velen and accept "Into the night", a quest which is just watching a cutscene (you can skip it, once it starts). Once you turn in "into the night" as completed, the 4 things are unlocked. You don't have to fight anything or go to the surface (though one of the first 3 quests on the surface gives you a choice of level 52 relics: nice).
Step 1 is getting the "The hand of Fate" quest, if you don't have it
To do that accept "Assault on Broken Shore" from Archmage Khadgar in the Dalaran flight area. Then, instead of saying "I am ready" to start the broken shore scenario (which you only have to do ONCE on ONE character), say "I've heard this tale before". Instantly you are ported to the turn-in NPC on the broken shore. Complete the quest and fly/port back to Dalaran. As soon as you are in Dalaran, the quest "The Hand of Fate" will pop up for you.

SO, go back to SW to the harbor, teleport to the Exodar, talk to the prophet, and you're back?
I was wondering about how to do this as a horde character? Just the bladefist bay ship?
so where at stormwind harbor is this portal?

It's not a portal, it's a boat. It takes you to the Exodar.
For me, after doing some Argus quests, there is a Lightforged beacon in Krasus landing that lets me go back. In Dalaran.
For horde I just went back from Dalaran.
