How do I generate maelstrom?

I cant seem to ever generate enough maelstrom to cast earth shock. I have to cast ten million lightning bolts in order to get a single earth shock off.

Is there something im missing

lava bursts.

Lava burst, lighting bolt, chain lightning, ele blast (if picked), and ice fury (if picked). Lightening shield also gens mael but you should not really be getting hit in group content so I would not really count that.

I moved to a more mastery heavy build for the overloads, echo shock/ Primordial wave, and the conduit for lightning bolt (30% chance to double maelstrom generation). I get earth shock procs out the wazzo now. Plus you need more gear so it will come.
