How do I gear up?

Hey lads,

Came back to wow since like start of S01, thanks to some DF changes I think are going to be really cool (talent trees and pvp gear for more player balanced random bgs)

But I have literally no idea how to gear up, I have this char with a legendary legs can I upgrade that to up to date ilvl?

And I also have a fresh 60 dk, which is all greens and gets rekt, anything worth noting gearing up a fresh 60?

Tyvm!

I’m in the same boat as you, and the grind appears to be ever more lengthy, which is why I’m looking for a solution to bypass it entirely.

In usual bliz fashion, it appears they closed every loophole. You must grind until you can grind no more. By the time you’re fully geared (I hope you’re a kid, and not an adult that has to work) the next expansion will drop and you can do it again, probably a longer grind with more walls, and maybe, just maybe, actually play the game at parity with your peers.

You can buy a 291 craft piece to upgrade your legendary or make another.
You’ll need new currency for it. Soul ash and Soul cinders comes from Thorgast but there’s no lockout on it. Cosmic flux comes from Zereth Mortis mostly and you get a bunch when doing other content in a smaller way.

You can buy 226 conduits from Zereth Mortis rep vendor once you get in.
Edit* and do the campaign there for your 2nd legendary that will be 265

You can buy 233 crafted gear for most slots for cheap and one piece of 262 or do normal dungeons.
You can do heroic dungeons next, you’ll probably need a couple to get close to 240-250+ Then you can start doing LFR or M+ for 260+ gear and then push from there into normal and higher level of M+.

Honestly, you can probably do as the poster above said and buy yourself a bunch of crafted gear to get up to 240ish, and then just start running +2 keys. I haven’t done any that low on an alt yet, but I can’t imagine they’re too rough yet.

There’s a Broker NPC near to the Great Vault that will give you a key if you don’t have one. He will also lower the key level, so I recommend just spamming 2s until you get confident going higher.

If you don’t enjoy mythic dungeons, then LFR is probably your next best bet, once you get to the point where you can queue up for it.

Do the Zenith Mortis campaign if you haven’t already, it gives you your Unity Legendary in the belt slot at a pretty high ilvl at the end as well and can be used with another legendary, and you can get some decent ilvl gear for free along the way too.

TLDR is the following:

  • Do the Zerith Mortis questline and dailies. This is essential since it’s how you get your second legendary as the end of the campaign rewards it (as a belt) and when you hit revered with the reputation vendor, you can unlock it as a memory for any slot of gear and for alts.

  • Unlocking ZM also lets you buy a full set of 226 gear for 500 anima per piece.

  • Cosmic Flux is VERY important. It allows you to craft your Legendaries at 291 and also is used for the Creation Catalyst which lets you craft Tier pieces by trading in a Mythic+/PvP/Raid (or certain ZM pieces) and some Cosmic Flux for a tier piece of that slot. You get Cosmic Flux by basically doing everything so don’t overly focus on it.

  • With that out of the way, we get to the important part. Item level. Best way to get ilvl is the same as it’s been for the past three expansions. Run M+ until your eyes bleed.

Thank you very much everyone for your answers.

And what about the covenant? Those dailies and everything related in my case to bastion? is it worth it gear wise? I find traveling there so annoying that id rather not do it at all

You basically get Renown for doing everything. Callings are worth doing for gold and renown, but not for gear.

Continue through campaign into Zereth Mortis, get to about ilvl 250 (if needed might be able to do heroics earlier for 249) then do M0 and LFR to get into 260+ and after that go into Normal raiding.
