How do I disable Emoticons in the forums?

Not in game, in the forums, I don’t wanna see em, I don’t wanna perform them. If I want to do : D I don’t want  Is there a setting I am not finding, or what? Please and thank you for help.

So there is no setting to cancel converting or auto applying, I just have to have things in quotation marks? Really?

yea unfortunately

you could mirror it

Wow. That’s… very surprising, not having a simple switch to have them show or not. Alright, well, not your fault, thanks for filling me in, just seems such a simple and easy thing to have in the forums.

Alt 0173 types an invisible character you can use instead of quotation marks.

I am grateful for the help, just sucks that there’s not a simple option. I didn’t realize it was alot to ask for.

Technology advances and this system isn’t shortsighted nor incompetent, because it’s created for mobile devices and for computers. It’s the entire opposite of what you’re claiming.

What’s the problem with emojis?

Pretty simple.

My issue is the fact that each and every time I want to make a face, it has to be an emoticon. I don’t like how flashy, cartoony, and how they look. Its fine if others like it, I vastly prefer ‘:D’ to  If its automated by default, thats fine, most do not mind it. But I do. It’s not the end of the world, but its silly how there is no option for it.

I am not given a choice unless I do something in specific to avoid it, when a simple checkbox ‘Show emoji’s’ Would have been fine. People have given me some solutions, and I am grateful. What my point is, the solution, at the start, should have been, check the box that says show emojis, or don’t check it.

So sure, its a small gripe not many people care about, but its an irritant for me, personally.

You can get the extension uBlockOrigin and that allows you to block ANYTHING you want from showing up on your browser. You’d have to go through every emoji and add it though. This however won’t make it go from  to “:D” but instead not show the emoji at all, no matter who puts it.

I’d like a source on this. Because even as someone older who didn’t grow up with the internet… this is a pretty odd way to feel about an emote. Even my 77 year old mother doesn’t have an issue with them.

Very rarely does anyone here ever “spam” emojis, nor use them in some “juvenile” manner. They’ve been part of Asian culture for longer than anywhere else, originating in Japan for cellphones and pagers. Back then, kids didn’t use cellphones or pagers.

So basically, you just called Asian culture tasteless and juvenile.

Sorry if my post seemed like I felt those who use emoji’s are anything bad. I just wanted a way to avoid them in my own personal messages. If I offended anyone, I apologise, it was not my intention. I stated some don’t like them to try to illustrate how ‘I’ didn’t like them, I can’t speak for everyone, or really anyone. So I am sorry if I sounded like I was the end all be all.

We’ve all done it. You’re okay. I understand you feel differently. Thanks for clearing that up, though! Maybe there’s some sort of extension for Chrome or something that will change them for you? I’m not sure.

I’ll have to look into it, its not the end of the world anyways. Thanks everyone for your help, I edited a couple of my posts to be a bit less sharp tongued, but still sharing how I feel.

I was tempted to post a page full of them but I don’t know you well enough to know if you would find it funny.

I mean, I dunno if I would find them funny or not, but I am not the sort to report or throw a fit over something I don’t personally find amusing. So go ahead if you wish to. :o
