How do I become a writer at Blizzard?

Is the hiring process selective? Do you need a letter of rec?

You need to favor the Horde

Probably click the careers option at the bottom pf the page and fill out an app if they are hiring for one. Include the relevant information such as works you’ve published and any other information required of them and let the process happen.

Literally produce a poor to moderate quality novel or graphic work that by some miracle or you just being able to afford an expensive publisher that will flood shelves achieves over 100,000 sales. That’s it. That’s actually not hard to do at all.

That’s the maximum qualifications of multiple of the head writers at Blizzard now. Explains how we got to where we are now, particularly with characters like Anduin and Sylvanus…

so no letter of recommendation is what you’re saying

Nope don’t need one. You don’t have a boss most of the time as a writer anyways so where would such a letter come from?

probably from whoever is telling these people that what they’re writing this expansion is good.

It pays 8.50 an hour. Was one of my first jobs until I found a better one.

It’s hard because they only give you 20 minutes to write the story for each expansion and then the rest of the time you’re working on other things

well damn that explains so much

I’m sure the process is selective - why wouldn’t it be?

I’d assume you’d need a pretty strong portfolio and quite a bit of professional writing experience.

Yeah exactly what Amirii says, I worked it too. My title wasn’t writer though, it was Janitor, writing was only once in a month thing, where they’d give me a few beers and a sheet of paper.

You might’ve been proofing my work.

It was more of a craigslist ad that was posted. No high school diploma necessary and I had to show them that I knew proper English on some pointless questionnaire they made me feel out.

well the next time you have a bad cold, empty your nasal contents into a tissue and use that as portfolio work. Should be sufficient. Bonus points if the pattern vaguely resembles the Horde symbol.
