How do I assign the assist target key?

My default target assist is “F”. How do assign it to a specific character in a group?

So for example, I hit “F” and it targets a different character in my group every time.

I want to assign it to a specific character so that when I hit the “F” key, it targets that character every time.

I posted this topic a week or so ago, but had no responses. I thought that since more people are 60, someone might know by now.

Really useful…hope someone chimes in because I would to know also.

The only way ive found so far is using a simple macro, that needs to be edited each time…lets say the person you want to assist is a tank named bob.

/assist bob

You can also use other tricks like

/targettarget

Which will target the target of your target.

Ok this is exactly what I wanted. Thank you. Target of target.

I want to hit f and the mai tanks target will be my target. That’s the one. I remember having to reassign for every group, but that’s the one.

Yeah could not remember it, but it worked great in vanilla.
Thank you.

When I want to target the tanks target, I whip up a quick macro
/assist name

keybindings

target equals targetoftarget will let you cast without targetting dps. should note, doesn’t help if you want to cast something else.

So it has been a while and many tries at trying to figure this out with no success.

I am inside an instance with four other group members.
I target the tank.
I press the macro /assist “name”
During fight I hit the “F” key and it says I have no target. I am not sure what the deal is. I am thinking it is my add ons; Questie or vender price, messing it up.

Anyways, in the end, I just resorted to clicking on the characters group icon and clicking on his target. Most times with this method, the target is usually half dead, but its is better than nothing I suppose.

I must be not understanding the simplicity of this macro concept.

Put the macro on your bar, then assing that bar slot to your f key in keybindings.
