I’m wondering how the chat ban system actually works. Like, does someone have to send in a report for a person to be banned, or is Blizz watching chat on their own? When a report is made, is it a bot that checks things out or is it a real person? They use the term “moderator”, but it’s never clarified if that is a live person. If it is a bot, does it use a pre-made list of terms to decide if something is ban worthy? Or is it a sophisticated AI that can read the nearby chat and decide? Yknow, some words and phrases in one context are fine and in another inappropriate. Along the same lines, if there are reports of more than one person in a conversation, does the moderator (bot or human) ban everyone or does it look at the conversation as a whole and ban just those it deems appropriate? Finally, how do they deal with spelling errors, symbols, etc.? I suppose this last one only matters if it’s a bot that is looking at a pre-determined list of offensive language. A person or AI would (probably) be able to use context.
They have a thing that will temp silence you if you get enough reports quick enough until a GM looks at it. Any silence that is fully applied and upheld has to be reviewed by an actual person.

Blizzard already perfected Skynet, it’s just plotting behind the scenes to end us all.
The only automation I’m aware of is the system that kicks in when you’re reported a bunch in a short amount of time. all silences are applied by an actual GM. The reports are what helps them navigate to the person breaking the rules. Pretty sure they don’t have some AI running around banning words because half of wow’s population would’ve already been silenced if that were the case.
For people to be punished swiftly or at all they rely on us to make the reports so they know who to punish if those reports are correct.

regardless, both are reviewed by humans, based on reports.
Blizz will not reveal any specific details on what methods they use to detect cheats (bots and such). Revealing such would just give the cheaters information on how to defeat the system.
Every penalty applied to an account (warning, suspension, ban, etc) is done by an actual person at Blizz. There is no “auto-ban” system.
