Hey all!
Making a post to see how you guys picked your main class?
I have had 3 different mains or 3 main alts depending on how you want to look at it.
I’ve played paladin, warrior and priest as mains at one point or another across the expansion.
I like the tank role and healer role a lot (especially as disc) but I have come to a point where I’d like to main just 1 class and actually have alts and not main alts.
I’m pretty much looking to see how you guys have landed on your mains to hopefully help myself out.
Does your main speak to who you are irl? Does your main reflect something you wish you could do irl? Is your main whatever is BiS for what game mode you like to play? Is your main your most time player? Is your main based off of WoW lore? Etc etc etc, id like to hear what you guys got!

It’s fun to press buttons on a mage.
Sometimes I have fun pressing buttons on a Paladin though.

I picked 5 classes I really enjoy playing through most expansions and said “you guys are my main.”

Always play Warriors. So I picked warrior. Simple as.
I think the primary factors were that I dislike melee, wanted to DPS, and still have at least a bit of self healing capability.
When I created this character in Vanilla it was either warlock or Balance druid. I tried druid first then switched to Shar.
HOW DID YOU PICK YOUR MAIN?
Blizzard (the devil in this story) made me do it.
Druid gets all the good stuff.
I wanted to main shaman, but decided as long as druid is the favorite child I may as well get all of its advantages if Im going to only run one single character.
But then, i did refund my SL pre purchase so we’ll see if im even playing in SLs at all.
Just wanted flashy explosions and special effects and stuff shooting out of my hands to blast monsters
Played around with all the classes and the one I had the most fun playing is now my main and has been for 15 years. Demonology warlock. My arms warrior is a close 2nd and I would say BM hunter is my 3rd. They are always the first 3 I level and I do the most on them.
a lot of simple reasons for mains here, nothing wrong with that though lol
I know I want to heal and DPS. So I tried every single class that had both on the PTR. Priest was the only one that had a healing and DPS spec that I really really loved. I also see if their professions are up there. My main has to have maxed professions (or reasonably close to it) especially Fishing.
Also helps that he was my main from Classic to WoD. Ahhh welcome home, Francis.
generally i play warlock but these days ive swapped to shadowpriest. it seems to me the cutest little spec i ever did see.
ofcorse, when void form gets changed its gana be cute. its ugly atm.
deathknight is a great secondary.
chosing a class out of the 12 is a little bit harder. id say try the trial option on the create a character menu. it can give you a feel on what this class is/will be at max level.
I haven’t, like I tend to jump around and play something new for a while until I want to play something else lol

Curious, why did you refund it?
I’ve always loved wizard/mage/sorcerer/magician types in RPGs. I looked at the available classes on the web site back in late 2004, and the mage stood out. My brother tried to talk me out of it because mages tend to be fragile (he started first with a hunter). I persisted and hit level 60 around the time AQ was released. I have played other classes and enjoyed them, but the mage has always been the most fun for me.
Originally it was the class. I’m a fan of martial arts in fantasy so the lore’s cool and in MoP monks were demigods. Way fun to play! And they still are today. Fast paced, mobile, melee, self-sufficient. All things I enjoy. I was actually deciding between a monk and a rogue back then and monk won.
But after years of maining her I’m also very invested in the character now too.

Not the ‘delay’ Ive been saying the game wasnt ready and wont be till end of Nov or Dec anyway.
- striders screwed for no good reason
- Lootarang screwed for no good reason
- cant run dungeons (chromie time) with experience locked, which a lot of people are complaining about right now.
Just a final straw thing for me. I play this game to enjoy myself not have to be irritated at every turn
Ive been playing ESO for maybe two years now. You know how many times Ive complained about the game? I can count the times on zero fingers, lol.
so why does WoW have to be so annoying with these pointless nerfs that serve no real purpose.
Just a host of crap and it going on for too long.
My first character ever was a warlock, back in a custom WoTLK server around 2010/11, dont remember the exact date. I didnt really know much about the game, i wasnt sure on what class to pick so i picked a random class and made a human warlock.
Several years later i returned to that server, now in MoP, and i made another warlock, but this time a gnome, this same character. In 2018 i wanted to return again, but the server had closed. So i decided to try the retail wow instead, and the first toon that came to my mind was this one, so i recreated my little cute warlock in retail, and here i am.
Currently this one is still my main, altough nowadays i have 15 other max level characters (12 of them using the ultra overpowered XP of the 15th anniversary classic AV event). In SL initially i plan to main this one too, altough i have some thoughts about maining my lightforged MM hunter instead. I will choose it on SL depending of how i feel them.
I play all the classes, I often let some go untouched for a week or so, but honestly I don’t think I’d have played nearly as long without them all. I feel like if I picked lock as main for example, my pally would divorce me.
I’ve given up on the whole idea of playing one character, it’s impossible for me. My characters are their own entity and no reflection of myself. So the character itself can draw me to play it, staying on it depends how the class is playing at the moment and what I feel like doing.
I have found I like ranged classes over melee, but I like to tank\heal. The majority of my characters are ranged with a handful of tanks and a healer or two I maintain if the mood hits to do those rolls.
