Did you go with the 1 you were told was “best”?
Did you try both then picked the 1 you liked the most?
Are you using both in different situations?
How did you pick your hero talents.

I did this with Prevoker. I enjoy Chronowarden.
I tried to do that with Devoker, but Flameshaper is so bad that I went back to Scalecommander.
I’m getting used to the stupid flyovers and finally got a good keybind down for Deep Breath.
Went Shado the moment I learned I had to use a second channeled ability on the other tree haha.
I just do Flameshaper Dev because it fits the character thematically and big 10mil crits are good unga bunga. I will Scalecommander for PvP just because the 2 hover charges per deep breath is just too good in there when everyone wants to kill you.
Until everything is on cooldown and you do poo for damage after that.
The one that had the most passives and least actives.
My action bar is full enough.
Kinda easy selection for me with Balance.
I have never liked using treants and love Fury of Elune.
It’s not the optional choice, but meh… That’s Balance in a nutshell at the moment. May as well have some fun.
I always play with everything myself, then look at suggestions. San’layn was neat but it didn’t actually feel like it provided anything, so I went deathbringer for the sweet murder scythes.
I don’t actually like Riders of the Apocalypse as a DPS tree. I think it’s too noisy.
With phasing, areas where burst AoE is required, or when targets take extra damage, pumping 30% of our overall damage into two GCDs every minute is what I would call surgical deletion. If a mob goes from 50% to zero, thats a flameshaper.
I picked the one I liked. It sucks, but I got to be in the Top 20 parses for once. Mostly because there’s only like 60 parses for those hero talents…
Both in different situations. Deathstalker is basically only usable in the raid, you can use it in dungeons if you wanna be giga sweat master and feel good about pressing filler GCDs just to turn on the mark and track yet another thing that needs to be tracked, granted it’s not crazy to track but I still need a unique weak aura for it, with a sound queue, no big deal.
But yeah Fatebound in all other content outside of the raid.
took the ones that sounded best till I had them all
I just went with the one that seemed to suit my preferred playstyle the most, same as everything else in WoW, I’m too casual to be min/maxing stuff.
I use guides, I only pick talents when I’m leveling, after that I defer to people that know what they are doing.
To me, it’s undertuned and too much of a roller-coaster. I dislike the “PHENOMENONAL COSMIC POWER… wait for a minute or so and do almost nothing…” playstyle.
I’m hoping they can work on it over time and even that damage out a little. Because if I don’t get stuff dead during that peak moment, I’m useless solo.
On my MM Hunter I didn’t even look at the Dark Ranger talents because I felt it was evil alignment, like Sylvanas and her lackey, Nathanos. I found Sentinel had everything I needed anyway some good cleave and single target damage combined.
So, yeah I care about gameplay, to the degree that I feel that I’m not overly limiting myself or my Guild, but I certainly choose some talents for thematics and roleplay. I never follow the meta, I feel like it’s a sure fire way to rob yourself of what could be a really rewarding and thoughtful experience, not to mention sometimes the guides are just flat wrong.
Example, the Cata Wowhead guide for BM got the numbers wrong for focus regen, and they ignored it when it was pointed out to them, so yeah, how can I trust they know what’s “BIS,” when they don’t even know how our stats work?
It plays more or less like normal from my experience. The only thing that limits flame shaper is trying to deal damage to things that don’t have fire breath on it.
There’s a lot of different damage profiles across the 26 DPS specializations in this game. I’m not much of a DPS player myself, but I am sure some of them have a flatter profile if you prefer having more sustain and less burst.
Koz… don’t tell me to go play another class when I already talked about what I am playing and enjoying as Devoker. Thanks.
I looked at which one was essentially passive and took that. Don’t give a damn about meta, I have too many god damn buttons as it is
