How did you get your achievement points so high?

I saw someone with a point level of 40k and I didn’t know points went that high. I started playing WoW when I was maybe 13 during TBC, so I didn’t focus on achievements. I would just run around and alt swap and explore so I didn’t have much direction. Then I left early in Legion and came back for DF. Currently, I have a bit over 8k points which feels very low for having played as long as I have. How did you boost your points number? Did it just happen naturally for you? Did you deliberately make a checklist and did one thing at a time? I want to increase my points (I rather like getting achievements on PC and trophies on console) but I feel so overwhelmed with the amount of content I haven’t done and the several years of content I missed. I haven’t even properly gotten into DF yet. I’m planning on starting fresh and focusing on one character (very different for me because I’m an alt maniac) so I can do as much as I can. I like the idea of having a main. I haven’t had one since Cata. Is there a good place to start?

I don’t go for achievements in WoW, because… they’re just milestones for the most part. Me getting 5 achievement points for getting X pvp kills now isn’t more exciting the last time I got the same achievement… it’s literally the same thing, over and over.

Anywhatsit, I think people at that level, 40k+, use addons to direct them, they’re also probably just very focused on completing achievements and just very active in the game.

Well for one thing they don’t play alts a lot. I keep on having my alts steal my main achievement points because they log on first or whatnot.

Gotta raid and pvp for real to get to those levels.

Jeez, the most I’ve ever done have been random BGs and LFR. I think I started normal in WoD, I don’t remember but I didn’t finish it. I would like to get into raiding, eventually. I’m probably the worst person ever when it comes to PvP though. Lol

a LOT of work, i’d imagine. dataforazeroth says less than 5k players worldwide have 40k achievement points - less than 1k of which are on US servers.

(Sauce: Dude on my server with 40,060 achievement points is ranked 2,209 globally and 545 regionally).

One of my guildies has 38k and I know he spends a LOT of time playing, and occasionally will ask us to come out to the middle of nowhere to help him do something weird and esoteric to get one more achievement. He seems to have fun, tho, and I’m in no place to judge given that I collect crafting recipes.

Honestly, I don’t pay them that much of attention, I see them once when they pop and say “That’s interesting”

Are there no rewards for achievements? I think the only thing I ever got was that white drake for getting some mounts but that’s it. I was kind of hoping there would be some neat rewards or something.

there’s no reward for having a high achievement score in itself other than bragging rights, but lots of the individual achievements do give rewards, such as pets or transmogs or titles or mounts.

Oh? I love the idea of having titles. Pets are okay but I don’t use them. I went out of my way to collect them when pet battles became a thing but that fizzled out. But yea, titles, I like the sound of that. Another MMO I play, well, not currently but I played a couple of months ago, is ESO and I loved collecting titles for it, too. Well I guess that’s one thing to look forward to!

My best advice is to pick one area of the achievement page and work on it until you’re done or as done as you can be.

There are substantial rewards for getting achievements. Very rare titles, toys, pets and mounts can be gotten through them.

I’m just a wee bit jaded on the whole achievement thing, but don’t let my negative opinion convince you not to enjoy the hunt for those rewards. There are some seriously nice things you can get from them, if you’re interested.

Definitely interested in the titles! Well, looks like I’ll have some research to do. I’ve seen some cool titles but I think a lot I’ve seen are earned through PvP. I’ve never done arenas before and I’ve never touched rated BGs so I don’t know how well I’d faire getting those titles. They all seem so cool, too. :\

That’s a good idea. I just get super overwhelmed looking at that big list lol but I guess I could start with something small and work my way up!

Start with the general category for your character. Those are easy. Then move to exploration and questing. Those are easy too but tedious.

GLHF!

There’s still the Insane title. I went for that one and quickly gave up because the grind is… well, insane. But, I’m sure there are a lot of interesting titles if you’d like.

I don’t know a lot about them, but I’m sure there are addons that could help you focus on achievements or groups of achievements.

Also, if Tovi is giving advice I’d probably take it. She’s no slouch with over 30k points herself.

Just grab the addons, All The Things and TomCat, they can direct you to everything around you that award achievements…well, and all the other things.

Nice, I’ll check those out!

Try not to be too overwhelmed by the TON of information thrown at you. All the things is highly configurable, take the time to look through the addons options and remove the types you do not want to see.

I came back to the game about 7 weeks ago and had just under 5k achieves and am actually focusing on all the xpacs stories I missed and have just been tagging things near me as I play so…1.6k achieves just from that.
