Every 5 points translates to 1 level.
So for example, If im a Hunter and i turn on track hidden, thats +30 and it would be as if i was a level 66 (6 levels higher) detecting level 60 Rogues. (Assuming they havent specced into Master of Deception)
What does that translate to in yards in game? In my characters cone of vision.

I would like to know where you got these numbers.
WowHead classic, in Track Hiddens ability comments, also in Rogue talents comments. (master of deception)
Im not entirely sure its accurate, its actually really hard finding concrete evidence regarding this.
Well what they’re saying is not that it makes it so you’re stealth detection that of a lvl 66, it’s that it raises your stealth detection level by 6 levels and every 5 stealth detection levels increases it by 1 character level. So you you’re basically a lvl 61 when it comes to stealthed players and mobs.
This roughly translates to a couple of yards at most beyond normal.
These statistics were never made public. At baseline, a rogue’s stealth is pretty pisspoor. There are two ways to improve it, through Subtlety talents or through the Night Elf racial. Things like [Track Hidden], [Paranoia] (fel hunter passive) and the ever-powerful human racial [Perception] all make it even easier to spot rogues.
I know from using Perception that I can see an equal level stealthed rogue from EASILY 15+ yards. Track Hidden and Paranoia are not that strong, but they’re enough to destealth a “nearby” rogue so you can launch an instant-cast at them and presumably ruin their opener.

Stealth detection in regard to player level is kinda dead simple, just as you’re describing it.
If you have “Track Hidden” toggled on, then you get +30 stealth detection, that translates into effectively 6 player levels of detection.
To give you an effective idea of how far that will give you to detect a stealthed target of your same level; it’s roughly 15 to 25 yards depending on how much +stealth they have in talents / enchants / gear.
They also must be in front of you to see them physically.
It’s important to note that if the rogue is not in your field of view the server will not populate your client with that rogues data.
You can however see a stealthed target on the mini-map and turn to see them.
I hope that helps you understand how the track hidden ability works; I might have missed something of forgot something, it’s been 13 years since vanilla was last up.

That is definitely the case.
From WoWhead comments, Perception is +10 while Track Hidden is +6 levels, it is not that weak as a level 61 would detect.
From what I remember they only appeared on the mini-map if you could actually see them. And let’s be honest, any rogue worth anything is going to be behind you. Not that it matters as fighting a hunter 1v1 is basically a death wish for a rogue, unless the hunter sucks/is a noob.

Track hidden is +30 at level 60, I know that to be true; I have ruined many a rogue’s day because of it.
When TBC rolled around and arena became the thing to do for PVP I had a lot of fun flaring rogues out.
Indeed, the match was 100% in our favor the whole time.

Yep Williams is right.
https://classic.wowhead.com/spell=19885/track-hidden
Apply Aura: Stealth Detection
Value: 29
It says when you delve the spell at the top of the screen 29 stealth levels under the value.
Thats roughly 6 levels. So 66 not 61. And you will believe it when you see how far it helps you see them in classic too. Its an underrated ability, it was VERY effective in actual vanilla WoW.

Theoretically a Night elf in Shadowmeld with Track Hidden would detect a Rogue first, if he slowly moved his cone of vision around. (Assuming the Rogue lost him or was outranged) Or if he was waiting by the Flag for Druids.
This is also not entirely true. If they come within 5 yards of you from behind you will be able to see them regardless. Which is why you have your pet on aggressive. The moment they get that close you pet will hit them before they have a chance to actually hit you with anything.
Track hidden is ridiculously strong, it’s one of the biggest advantages we have in World PVP vs anything stealth.
In BG’s its even better because you know there is some sneaky rogue / druid hiding some place. Merely need to look out for them.

True in practice but I would not count on that this time around because server lag was more or less to blame for us being able to detect a rogue from behind.
Well no, that’s what flare is for. If you’re relying purely on 1 thing to win, you’re asking to lose.

Hehe, not gonna rest only on tracking. Just pointing out how ridiculously strong an ability it is.
So if your feeling BM and really wanna ruin a Rogues day, you can just Track Hidden, chuck on a Catseye elixir or Catseye Ultra Goggles (+2 levels each) and we’ve basically got a Perception on Demand… all with a simple macro.
Neat…
I mean, you could, but pretty much any hunter spec is capable dealing with rogues fairly effectively. I mean unless you’re gonna try to be a melee hunter.
What does melee have to do with this when your detecting Stealth 15+ yards away and sending your aggrod pet immediately?
Track Hidden is a stealth detecting ability, the minimap part is a bonus.
I was talking about your comment about ruining a rogues day and saying it pretty much doesn’t matter what spec you are as a hunter you can effectively ruin their day unless you want to try to be a melee hunter.
