I quit shortly after Zandalari came out and didn’t resub till now.
I thought the game was going in the direction of Vulpera for Horde and Sethrak for the Alliance. I remember there being increased Alliance presence in Voldun, specifically to ramp up the H-A conflict on the PTR.
This would have been the perfect moment to cement the Vulpera & Sethrak factions to the Horde and Alliance respectively.
So why didn’t it happen? What was going on at that time on a meta perspective? Were you surprised to get mechagnomes?
Because the alliance had very little interaction with them at all. The ones that were unfriendly with the vulpera were unfriendly with everybody because they wanted the world dominations.
And can you imagine making those player-race ready from a technical standpoint? A nightmare, to be certain. Couldn’t even imagine head gear on them.
There really wasn’t much of a reason for Sethrak to go Alliance. There were a few quests were you helped them out but not that many, and certainly less than the Horde had.
At first it seemed like the natural pairing with Vulpera, but after doing the Horde side quests it became clear that Horde actually interact with them wayy more than Alliance. So they probably would have been Horde if added.
Blizz had an opportunity to make quillboar a new Alliance beast faction, but decided to make them a pointless enemy instead. Other than mechagnomes, that was the only really unique non-human group that could have been added from Kul Tiras. Tortollan were like Sethrak, Horde interacted way more.
Surprised? Sort of. As soon as mechagnomes were shown as an upcoming faction we would be working with, I think we all knew. We didn’t want to believe it, we begged them not to do it, but we knew.
I’ve given them more of a chance than most, but even if I’ve enjoyed mine, they’re a poor substitute for sneks.
Sethrak are only encountered in horde zones. If sethrik were going to join the alliance, they would have a group on the alliance island (which could also have given alliance context for the first raid).
The difference in race diversity between the two continents was pretty extreme this expansion. If there is a human zone, it can only have humans and gnolls apparently.
Hopefully Blizzard realizes the alliance need better race diversity and address that moving forward.
They need to realise we were given a barely eligible subrace category that cannot use 3 sets of transmog and the fourth one was half ruined (pants) by the customisation which is also very few to pick from vs Vulpera a brand new race thats only devalue is the fact it was built off the Goblin skeleton and rig and not their own one.
Also the Witches are just mutated humans and kul’tiran humans, that Drust stuff is basically undead Vrykuls again but with wood and stuff.
They’re not, but their use of the goblin skeleton is probably part of the reason they’re the goblin AR since it meant the two were technically related despite being entirely different species. The only alternative was gilgoblins, who could’ve filled the role if the art team bothered to update their models for 8.2.
Didnt they add the female gender for 8.2? plus they’re more smoother then pre 8.2 gilgoblins from what i know (i honestly heavily supported Gilgoblins cause i loved the buggers in Nazjatar moreso then the Ankoan).
