If you had to put a % on it. How close is Classic? 99, 75, 50, 0? Curious.
followup, since #nochanges is officially dead, what non-gameplay UI changes would you want to see? For me, its client side opt in updated character models, see my other threads for reasoning.

How accurate? Probably 60-70%
Bugs, some abilities and items are in their post-Vanilla states, the general feel and timing of gameplay is way off, lighting is very different at night, pets don’t respond like they used to in Vanilla, better internet exaggerates windows of opportunity for some classes more than others.
It’s the same game but functionally feels and plays different enough that I would consider it a bad port, but that’s just the programmer in me. It needed more time in the oven with folks who actually played Vanilla enough to spot the inconsistencies.

You literally already have a different thread begging for updated graphic models, stop spamming the forums.
And honestly, I don’t see a good reason for putting in updated models in a game that’s supposed to be a retro version of World of Warcraft. The graphic models for 2004-2006 are still quite good for 2019. It’s not like we’re reverting to Sega Genesis graphics.

Thats not what this threads about. what %?

I was going to type something similar.
The play is there, the graphics are there, etc. The community is better than retail by leaps and bounds however, it’s not a full 1:1.
I also went in not expecting it to be either. You can never get a full 1:1 re-creation of historical gaming outside using a tube TV for your retro games.

It’s pretty bad tbh. Maybe 50%
Some of the bones are there, but going into it with a Frankenpatch 1.12 base and random changes / includes (especially when it comes to loot/item statistics) is pretty jarring.
You also miss all the old talent trees and such among other things from earlier patches, but that’s a whole different discussion entirely I think.

Classic has 30% less muscle than original Wow. So it’s leaner. It’s Vannila-lite, (not Vannila-like).
The muscle is still there - but there’s more fat - so it’s tender but it all has to be seasoned right - salted and left to marinate for the day.
Oil your pan - get it smokin’ - now add your meat - cook for about 4 minutes each side.
And there you go.

define vanilla…
day 1? or last day??
for reference, the last raid of vanilla, Naxx, was patch 1.11
we are playing patch 1.12
so it’s depends on your perspective.

They keep changing it to be less like vanilla and more like a vanilla style game, but with only what they want in it.
It’s very close. Here’s what you didn’t get:
-
Several iterations of patches that fixed or completed classes (i.e talent trees, abilities and any tuning of those) Vanilla had lots and lots of class problems for quite some time. And I don’t mean balance, I mean completion. Druids were an absolute joke for at least a year. If you were a Shaman, you had the “I win button” and could pwn just about any other class.
-
Stability issues. The game hit the street rough. Disconnects, time-outs server restarts <- rinse and repeat. This was constant for at least 2 ish months. The anger on these boards was legendary.
-
Visual effects enhancements. Most notably, water effects. Some of world terrain was unfinished. Weather effects didn’t make into the game for 6 months (maybe longer).
-
General progressive tweak of mobs, dungeons and loot. Mobs and Dungeons were tweaked as new more exciting(powerful) content came out. So they needed to get people geared for the next progression (This was the start of the WoW hamster wheel as it is known in the retail version). The loot tables were re-itemized, added to and amended over the course of the 2 years between release and the 1.12 patch.
All in all. IMO (I’ll get flamed for this) it is very similar to the Vanilla game. What you have with Classic is a polished version of what Vanilla should have been at release. Not the rush to release mess that the game was in 2004.

Except when they’re changing things to suit their own wants
Removing XP from mobs that always had XP
Removing addons ability to post in chat
etc etc.
I never touched torch runs but it’s BS for them to remove the XP from the mobs just because they didn’t like people doing it.

pretty much what 1.12 was exactly.
anyone saying otherwise never played 1.12

Like 95%, and 4% of the missing amount is layering. The remaining one percent is minor bugs that weren’t in the original game.

even with all the UI and graphical changes?
Well, there’s gear trading in raids and other things like that too,but that was from a standpoint of wanted less tickets.
If you play the game with no mods on your UI, it’s identical to the UI on day one. The graphics are much better than day one 2004.
While I agree that it isn’t necessary, is it really a thing that shouldn’t be added as an option? It would be an option on the client-side, so you wouldn’t even know if someone was using it or not.
