Its not that hard just to have redundant servers. Just essentially double the servers like a hot site. Do the maintenance on the backup servers, then when its done and works nicely, switch to the backup servers and do maintenance on the main servers. Then Blizzard would hardly have down time and would not look grossly incompetent multiple times a week every week for 20 years.
Delete Vulpera and dracthyr to make more space
But it costs money though, and that means increasing sub price or decreasing shareholders profit
True its all about profit. Definitely not about customer satisfaction. The thing is they aren’t even adhering to the most basic of industry accepted best practices. All great IT departments have redundant servers, and this company wholly depends on its servers. It just seems backwards that they don’t practice the most basic of principles taught to every comp sci/ IT student in intro classes.
I love my foxes ![]()
I agree, Worgen, goblins, and gnomes can also go.
I’m guessing the changes they needed to make to The Earthen race ended up being more complicated then originally intended.
But like, that would require that they reinvest some of the money we give them back into the game, instead of sticking it all in their pockets, like they do.
It cost money and time. I’m sure they care but not enough to dip into profits
I can get behind that. While we’re at it, all races can go. We just need wire frames for the essentials. Blue wire frame models for Alliance, red wire frame models for Horde, and an offline mode during maintenance to play some stick figure ultimate fighting.
Ah yes “Just buy, run and maintain double the amount of equipment so you can increase uptime by 2%”
GeNiUtH.
Years of experience running a lemonade stand seems to have served you well. So much insight offered, so much brilliance
They make enough money to do this without increasing sub prices and decreasing profits.
Its IT 101 its called redundancy.
Yeah but do they want to? And especially in a time where they dont even have to do their own PR. They have an army of Peons to defend their bad business practices without paying them
Everyone owns two vehicles so that when one is getting a tune up, you can drive the second one, right? It just makes good business sense, and it doesn’t cost any extra money.
I own two houses for a similar reason. When one is being cleaned, I can go next door and live in the other. This is all common sense people.
There’s ALWAYS a SPOF
Blizz does a short maintenance - Bugs happen, people get upset demand testing.
Blizz does a longer maintenance to include testing - People get upset.
People - We are all IT experts and understand the complexities of launching an maintaining a complex infrastructure of this magnitude. We can do it better.
/lol
This one gets it.
I’m sure Blizzard techs are reading this post thinking “gee why didn’t we think of that?”
