How big would Karazhan be irl?

If you were to say have unlimited funding, how big do you think it would be IRL and how many millions would it take to make a replica of it?

I think if I won like 500 mil powerball I would build my own somewhere!

Karazhan is multiple sizes depending on how you’re instanced so a figure is hard to guesstimate.

There’s also the question as to which area of which state etc.

Can’t see it being more than 10mil though

Building the lower half would prolly be easy but the top area would be tricky since there are rooms going off in weird directions and it doesn’t really follow a proper castle structure. And adding in the crypt area and tunnels under neath would be tricky as well.

I was thinking more like TBC 10 man size, where you kinda get the full scale of size. Relative to character height it seems very big, especially opera hall

I’ve always seen Kara as a fancy place, I mean it has a ballroom so I’d imagine it could easily exceed 10m with all the “ooo la la” stuff that’d have to go into it.

the nether reaches too ?

I was thinking it would be crazy high when you think about the menagerie, observatory, the gigantic library, dining hall, dance area, the you have the downstairs entrance, stables, the basement, and not to mention the opera hall. Its alot of stone and work if you wanted an exact replica. Plus all the bedrooms

Yeah, speaking of the price tag 10 million wouldn’t be enough. Celebs buy houses for that much that are nowhere as intricate as what Karazhan would be. I’d be looking north of 100 million.

The problem is that Karazhan doesn’t entirely exist in the plane of reality. About half of it seems to be in between dimensions and interacts with all of them.

If you were to do a full-size one as close to form as possible, I could definitely see it being well over that if you include everything (eg. materials, labor, permits, etc). The stone alone would run a pretty high bill to purchase and transport, and that’s just one piece of the materials.

I’d say in real lore terms it’s about the size of a decent castle, just more vertical than horizontal. It’s also a heavily magical place so the inside is already weird and doesn’t necessarily match the outside.

IRL it’d probably cost you at least tree fiddy to do it.

Thats why I was thinking it would have to be huge to make the inside match to scale IRL. Not as big as like King of Prussia mall or anything but fairly large to encompass everything, I think the library given the size of your characters walking through and going up towards observatory would probally be a 10+ stories

Would be a pain to dust/clean tho

Plus aren’t certain sections of it while appearing to be part of the mansion also their own pocket dimensions? So Karazhan is basically the Tardus… if the Tardus was in the form of Luigi’s mansion.

Even just the part in our dimension is basically gonna be like half a billion dollars. As also pointed out below, the thing is not even in new condition, it’s half derelict as is.

Since the inside seems like “it’s magic” hard to tell the very top is torn open.

Honestly if we were talking IRL, Karazhan wouldnt be that big on the outside, its the inside you gotta think about, I’m thinking they pretty much nailed its scope in the Movie, but the inside, probably would be something of what you would see in a Harry Potter film

I end up tripping down all 157 flights of moving stairs

Inside of Karazhan would be pretty hard as the tower shifts very often because of the magic.

but outside It would be pretty ez.

Using the height of the average of a human. (6 feets) and stack them to the top would probably give us the height.

idk if in-game height would be accurate.

Somewhere around the size of a city block… Parts of Karazhan remind me of the old Borders store in Auckland, and the opera house of the theatres within shouting distance.

Map the inside first then the outside.

The Guardian’s Library, Ballroom and Opera House are the biggest areas.

The smaller rooms are the Guest Rooms, the Servants’ Quarters, the Stables, the Guardhouse, the Scullery, The Menagerie, the Conservatory, Gamesman’s Hall, Medivh’s Quarters and the Guardian’s Study(right at the top of the Tower according to the Novel which means where you find the entrance to Netherspace in BC rather than where you find it in Return to Karazhan which is the Library).

The Broken Stair and Master’s Terrace are outside areas and must be done last after everything else.

Without magical dimensions it’ll be pretty large I would say about a mile in width and pretty much the height.
