How are your movement keys set up?

Just curious as to how others have their movement keys set up. Do you use the number pad? Mouse only? Arrow keys?

As I’m watching pvp videos and just others in the game, it makes me wonder how others are moving around like they do. I have all my movement set up on the mouse. I even strafe with the mouse side buttons. If you’re using the keyboard to move, then how are you moving the camera angle around at the same time? How are you clicking on things? Are you going back and forth between keyboard and mouse, or using another method?

I’m just wondering if there is a better way to move, especially in pvp, than my current set up.

Oh, and why does my hunter run when I strafe right, but only walk when I stafe left??

Thanks!

qwe , no backpedal.

just turn 180 and strafe if you need to back up. extra keybind !

(sometimes have to use double mouse buttons to move forward but i cannot upgrade to not using W at all)

I play almost all my games with WASD, this game requires me make use of QWERTY and 1-0.

Then I combine a few in macros

WASD and m4 is autorun. I have cooldowns on the number bar and basic rotation on the num pad.

Its awkward at first, but after a while it becomes intuitive. I have w as my default move forward key, or both mouse buttons if I have to hit a bind that takes my hand where it makes it awkward to hit. Then I have A and D bound to strafe left and right. I turn with my mouse, and control the camera with it as well.

That leaves me 1-4, Q, E, R, T, F, G, Z, X, C, V, shift and then control for all of those options. I then have mouse wheel up and down as well, and camera zoom bound to a shift macro on the mouse wheel. Then I also have a gaming mouse with its own ten keys worth of bindings available, but thats predominately for my healers to dps during down time.

WASD like normal :stuck_out_tongue:

A, T, V, K for movement. The most efficient set up!

Use my mouse. Barely have any sensation left arm, and hand, so cant keep fingers on keyboard, or even feel the buttons. Have to stop playing just to be able to type using right hand.

S, D, F - strafing left and right and move forward. The mouse does the rest.

Thanks for all the replies. So, it looks like the majority use the left keyboard letter keys, which is the default (or some form of default) movement keys.

A couple of issues I had with that set up: One, I needed to activate my skills/spells as quickly as possible, so I replaced those movement keys with skill/spell keybindings instead. And two, and probably the bigger issue, is that if I was using, say, my index finger on a movement key, I couldn’t then use that finger for skill or spell actions. If I’m using my index and ring finger to constantly strafe left and right, I now can’t use them for actions.
How do you all get around that issue?

so, mine is probably weird. i have a gaming keypad with a ‘joystick’, and a mouse with side buttons. my main form of movement, moving forward, is hitting a side button on my mouse binded to auto run toggle, and i hold down the right mouse button to move my camera view. i hit the toggle to move, and i hit the toggle to stop moving. i move this way while in the world, raids, dungeons, etc.
when i have to strafe i just use the ‘joystick’ on my keypad. i also use the keypad ‘joystick’ to back up, but i try no to do that much.

tbh, this set up for me is awesome. all my bindings are on the keypad. i do have other abilities set to my mouse keys, only 6 buttons, but they are just mount bindings.

idk whats up with your hunter.

edit: razor orbweaver keypad and logitech g602.

WASD for movement, spacebar for jumping.

Everything else is keybound to 1-12 using the 12 thumb buttons on my mouse, and left CTRL and SHIFT are used as modifiers to access a second and third hotbar.

I do the exact same thing as you, its great because you can move around strafe freely but have your entire left hand for rotation.

For the occasional time you need to click things (like psyfiend, heroic leap) I also have forward on my caps-lock so I can keep chasing that monk/mage/whatever while I click the thing. I hit it with my pinky.

On a dps I just use my mouse and sometimes my forward arrow, on a healer I often need to mouseover so if I cannot select someone (usually myself) I use arrow keys. I’m constantly running around the battle field and use my arrow keys unless focused, I have my binds set so I can select them and run the arrow keys with my thumb.

Used to be qwe but changed because of every other game using wasd and many wouldn’t let you rebind so had to learn and get used to wasd. I don’t backpedel in mmos so I use s for other stuff.

Pretty sure I started using qwes back in mid 90’s with quake. Oh yeah, I’m starting to remember, this was before I started using a mouse to aim so I used a/d to look up and down. The transition from doom(keyboard only) to quake(using mouse) took a bit of training.

1,3 to strafe. 2 forward, both mouse buttons for full movement forward/turning, 5 to backpedal though may check to see if I can turn it into an “about face”.

Edit: I use a Razer for movement and keyboard for spell keybinds.

awsd for movement. Right mouse button for direction and camera.

Gaming mouse has 8 extra buttons so those plus shift/ctrl are where I have all my abilities.

Keybind on an old school keyboard and mouse. QWES to move. Z to sit/move down. mouse look, and mouse run when things get hairy.

W move forward
a to strife left
d to strife right
and s to back peddle
