Hey All
Hadn’t played much at all since WOTLK until this season and just now starting to feel the itch to push arena again. I play a few different classes, and never in the past used Party 123, Arena 123 for targeting. Just focus spells and tabbing/clicking for enemies, and specific party member macros.
Felt like it could be smarter so recently just unbound my mouse scroll and top button for party 1,2,3, and arena 123. ran the script to stay at the bottom of the raid frame so its always the same self targeting wise.
Needless to say I’m all messed up now due to the fact that the scrolls were critical binds beforehand that I had to switch off, so my brain is having trouble registering (lol).
Curious to know what other people do, or if they have any insight into how the pros typically do it. Seems like it’ll be much more efficient this way, but then again could just be overthinking it too.
Keep playing until you get used to it
.
You honestly don’t need to bind party1-2 to your mousescrolls you just need to bind it to where it make sense to you.
Iirc, Cdew target party are f1 and f2.
I have played with many high ladder players, some have clicked, tab target, 1 2 3 macros, etc.
Just practice and play what is comfortable to you.
I use 2 cameras positioned on each end of my monitor with an advanced eye-tracking algorithm that automatically targets the enemy that I look at in the face and wink.

How do you handle mirror images?
TAB targeting babyyyyy
forget those sweaty people that have a bind for every single thing
on my razer naga i have targetting on 1 2 3
1-12 on it is f1-f12 excluding f4, its set to =
1 2 3 targets enemy arena frames 1 2 3
shift 1 2 3 targets teammates and self
4 5 6 focuses arena frames 1 2 3
Hey bro, im rolling on a wrath private server what class would you recomend?
I’ve seen the best players in the game click/tab/Focus target without target 1 2 3 binds, clicking on frame is more reliable or even some click the nameplate/enemy themselves.
That is about all I would suggest clicking if you want to play high end arena (and as long as you can do it incredibly fast).
For me I have focus but mostly I have important abilities bound to my naga in 1 2 3 binds, like Countershot 1 2 3, tranquillising shot 1 2 3 etc. If I need to switch target instantly to kick and I only have the option to click, it simply isn’t quick enough, if I’m just switching damage it momentarily it isn’t that big of a deal, as melee tab targeting can be fine.
I use 1 for myself. 2 and 3 for 2nd and 3rd party members. I do have it go up to 5 because I’ve had those binds since 5v5 was a thing.
I shift shift 1-3 on my naga to target enemy players.
I only use arena123 for hoj and repent. When hpals had rebuke, I had 123 for that as well.
I think as long as things can be done fast enough, whether clicking or keybinds, as long as it happens faster than 1.5 (the gcd) seconds consistently through out a game, you can make it work.
I see the ‘best’ have keybinds and click/mouseover which doesn’t make sense to me, but I guess is proof anything works. For me my mouse’s first 6 buttons are target party 1-3 and arena 1-3, and as a disc priest I find that extremely useful.
Arena 123 with a small mix of click, mouse over focus, and tab.
Honestly idk about you guys, but I used to use tab a lot to good effect. Somewhere around WOD I swear on my life they changed the behavior of target nearest player as before then I could use little camera tricks to very reliably target what I wanted. Even if a player was behind another and slightly to the right I could reliably quickly turn the camera in their direction, tap, and guarantee it was them.
I felt like regardless of distance there was a sort of well defined vertical slicing it used to decide on where you were facing.
Now its a gamble which has caused me to only really use it if there’s clearly 1 player right in front of me. It feels like there’s a bunch of weird factors which I can’t really get a bead on because sometimes it will snap target to something way on the side of my screen that makes no sense, and in a large scale battle setting like AV it will target weird stuff. I’ll hit it and instead of any of the 8 people 20 yds away, it will snap to someone way in the left of my screen at 40 yds.

when I’m doing it the way i “want” to do it, it’s via 123 macros. Right now I have my key binds set up for targeting as such:
Mouse Side button(MSB) 1 - Me
Shift + MSB 1 - Teammate 1
Ctrl + MSB 1 - Teammate 2
MSB2 - Arena 1
Shift + MSB2 - Arena 2
Ctrl + MSB2 - Arena 3
It ends up when i’m panicking during a go that I just tab target and freak out, but you know.
I’m going to adjust this down the road as I’m not a fan of the Ctrl button. So it’s likely to move to MSB1 - me, MWU, MWD and than Shift + for the enemies.
The game now prioritizes targets that are casting first.
Regardless of it theyre behind you or in nosebleed seats like 5 rows back.
If you tab and a critter is casting your target Is that critter.
That is awful. I wish there was a setting where you could basically aim your camera center for your preferred target.
A,s,d = arena targets 1,2,3
Shift + a,s,d = kick 1,2,3
Ctrl + a,s,d = cc 1,2,3
I move with q,w,e and mouse
