What do you guys think of the current state of WoW graphics? I don’t mean the art style. I mean the polygon count, texture resolution, that sort of thing. Have they stood the test of time for you, or do you see them as being badly out of date?
Up until the last year or two, I still found them to hold up pretty well. But lately, they’re starting to look unacceptably aged to my eye, especially in the old zones and with the old gear models.
It can get noticeable when you’re going back and forth between old (vanilla/BC) content and new content but I think that, all things considered, it stands up fairly well in part because it’s cartoony.
I used to be impressed by the pandaren models, but comparing to the other playable models, they look aged. especially the textures and polygons of the hair, the neck looks strange too
they’re aging fine, but i still see it as slightly-better than ps2 graphics- THAT’S NOT A BAD THING! i love the graphics in WoW! it just reminds me of the ps2 for some reason.
I don’t really notice any issues. I’m sure if I were to scrutinize things I could find the flaws, but I don’t. Nothing really just jumps out at me and screams “AHM SO TURRRIBLE” that I notice it.
I think the graphics are great. Thanks to the amazing hand-painted textures. They manage to make the models look good without even using Normal Map textures.
They are super outdated. A lot of people say “But the cartoon style is wow”. Yes, that is true, but the texture resolution is indeed fairly low, the shading and lighting could use a complete overhaul. Animations are so stiff, we still have no cloth physics. Lots of work to be done.
