I was considering boosting one and was wanting to know what they’re currently like?
I consistently do very well in battlegrounds with the very rare off day. Finished third overall in dps in normal ET last night, the only things I can’t take on in the open world are current world bosses. The only real problems I have is rogues popping out if stealth behind me, and DHs while I’m fighting groups of mobs. Typically I will only be able to force my opponent to flee as I seem to stall right when one more good strike is needed to kill them. I’m slow, little self-healing, and no real interrupts to speak of. I’m destruction, btw.
In what regard?
for sure its better than mage
Anything is better than a mage lol. Warlocks are ok, been kicked down a little this patch.
for PVE (specifically raid)? B+/A- tier depending on encounter. were not god-tier OP at the moment, which is a good thing.
Damage wise Warlocks are currently not very good, lower middle to bottom.
Fun wise Warlocks are terrible, Demo is the only one that feels good to play and even then it’s a braindead shadow of it’s former self.
I would say warlocks offer a great deal of variety if you like different kinds of content. We’re above average in every pvp and pve setting although mythic+ is a huge struggle for us (you pretty much have to run demo). I would suggest starting out with destruction and gearing into haste/mastery. It’s a standard spec that will remind you of other classes. If you intend to become a hard core raider learn affliction and get a decent amount of tracker add-ons for dots. Mind you “fun” is not really in the conversation for warlocks at the moment.
Warlocks are in a fine place, right now the spec you want to play seems to be determined by what you’re doing.
PVP/Warmode Open world content- Destruction
Raids-Affliction
M±Demonology.
In each of these scenarios one spec is very good and the others feel pretty weak.
Says the Warlock who hasn’t even reached max level…
Also, fun is subjective. If you don’t like it then go play something else. I’m still having fun with the class as are tons of other people.
@OP: Warlocks are in a good spot right now. We’re perfectly viable for all content.
Except destro in mythics its a joke.
Don’t boost anything, take the time to level one up.
As far as WC logs it looks like in raid mage is even vs warlock. Fire = Affliction, Frost = Demo, Arcane = Destro. They are always right next to each other.
In m+ I’m pretty sure it has frost as pretty high ahead of lock.
Boosting a warlock will only make you hate it. Level and learn the moves and how they work.

I don’t need to level from 1-120 to learn the class.
I usually put a tiny bit of money aside every fortnight that i use to treat myself with a new game or the likes however i haven’t had any urge to buy much of late therefore was going to treat myself to a boost. Besides I’ve just levelled 4 characters to 120 all in a row which has left me a little burnt out of the whole levelling process.
How are warlocks i’ll tell you, They are missing their doom guard buddies.
One of the best things you can do is make a class trial and play around with it. IIRC they start at 110, and therefore have all talents unlocked.
Play around with the specs, see how well you like the flow of things, because ultimately balance changes and so does your position on a raid chart, but if you hate the class gameplay then no amount of DPS will fix it. And only you can decide if you like it or not.
Conversely you could love it and want to boost it up. Which is fine as well, just know that you can take it for a test drive before signing off with the dealer. Might pay to trial other classes while you’re at it, there could be a class you haven’t thought of that is really a perfect fit. The trials are entirely free of charge, use them to make a more informed decision before dropping the big bucks.
I have to agree with the posters ehobsaud find boost a lock (or any toon for that matter) because you won’t know how to play it. Sure it doesn’t take long to learn the basics, but to learn the nuances of how it all fits together, when to use what and when to use something else or whatever is not learned in a short time. I’m still learning new things once in a while on my lock and I’ve been making her for a year and a half or so.
I boosted a druid because I had a free boost and I wanted an alchemist. Don’t ever boost a druid, lol. So confusing when all those abilities and synergies get thrown at you at the same time.
Yeah, that’s completely false. Sorry. Fire is performing extremely well in raid at the moment, one of the most desired casters.
Fairly good in raid, terrible in m+, and from what I hear Destro is still great in pvp.
