How are there still ads in LFG?

Granted, yes, not as many as before. But are folks really using authenticator accounts to post spam? I am genuinely curious about this.

Apparently, yes. My guess is that the penalty for spamming in the Group Finder isn’t harsh enough.

The heavy lifting was done with the level requirements to post, that got rid of most of it.

Might be a little less now, hard to tell if it’s just less players and demand or if the authentication had any effect.

I suspect there are ways to simulate the authenticator with virtual phones. So just a minor annoyance to people that want to post adds.

Lol. the penalty for rmt gold in classic/tbcc is a 3 day ban.

And some even keep the gold. They see it there day 4 and ban over.

Game (both) needs subs. 1000 sellers…are 1000 subs.

There doesn’t seem to be any mechanism for removing ads.

right-click report?

The only effect that seems to have is to remove it from your view until the next play session.

You’re forgetting that SMS Protect is also required to customize LFG text.

I agree with OP - the problem hasn’t gone away. A small impact but otherwise it’s still loaded with “offer”, “wts” etc.

I mean, it has helped. I’ll give blizzard that. I’ve gone from seeing 10 WTS groups down to 2. I’m just wondering how they are still posting with the new requirements in place.

It is supposed to cut down on the RMT advertisements, not the allowed carries via gold. I am sure a lot of people still sell carries for gold, which is likely what is mostly out there still.

Gold carries via LFG are NOT permitted.

“Selling items and services for gold is allowed but can only be advertised in-game through the Trade chat channel. Advertisements are not allowed in the Group Finder. The Group Finder is intended to help players find active groups that are being formed and advertisements make it difficult to find relevant groups.”

The ads I am seeing are still very much RMT for 3rd party websites like Fatboss or Leprestore. Also, I am only looking at LFG ads, not trade chat.

Here’s a sample taken just now where 4/9 postings are ads:

I know what Blizzard has said, but they won’t bite the hand that feeds them which is gold carries. Those looking to find runs for gold are using the group finder too. You can argue it was not the intended purpose when it rolled out, but gold carries make up a large percentage of the token sales. Which in turn provides Blizzard with lots of income. We can debate this plenty but considering Blizzard has not stopped gold carries in LFG, we can venture to guess the income it provides exceeds the threshold that has Blizzard looking the other way.

But it’s not gold carrys that are being listed into LFG. It’s RMT by scammy websites.

Ok? It’s still not allowed and those groups will be actioned if they’re reported. You can say it’s allowed until you’re blue in the face, but they’re not and reporting them is necessary to get them actioned.

I’m not saying the advertisers aren’t punished harshly (I have no idea), but such ads are clearly against the rules. Don’t go around saying they’re allowed.

Blizz really needs a Carry for gold tab in LFG. Then just crank up the punishment for posting ads in the regular section. Everyone wins.

Blizzard looks the other way. You are free to interpret that as you see fit. I can tell you on the rare chance you get actioned for posting a gold carry run, you get a warning… nothing more. Obviously if you continue to list I am sure it escalates but I can not speak from experience on that.

Yes they use trash accounts with give away phones. For the big RMT’s , a price of a single account is nothing compared to the profit they make.

I don’t care what you think Blizzard does.

Posting gold carries in LFG is clearly actionable. Going around saying “it’s allowed!” or “Blizz looks the other way” just sets up Poor Penny who reads your lies for potential account action.
