required runes for a role being hard gated?
Why is it so hard to understand people want to play their new role in the content, not play the content to get a new role?
From a completionism perspective, by the time you can be a tank rogue or warlock, it doesn’t even matter, you’ve done everything.
What is difficult to grasp about this concept?
SoD is scuffed
Blizz has stated they goofed, won’t be doing this for future runes, and will remove Meta from BFD after phase 1. Sucks for the duration of phase 1, but there’s nothing left to argue about
Edit: As for Rogue…yeah that’s kind of scuffed too. The Barrens quest requires way too much, including an item you can only get with Engineering
Honestly, locking warlock tanking rune behind the end-game raid is horrible… Let’s advertise this brand new role for Warlocks but they can’t use it at all while leveling.
Bad design.
It’s just the same old story. Gate keeping raiders. They want as much exclusive power as possible to lord over others.
They have admitted it was a mistake and won’t do something like that again. Im sure glad I didn’t roll a Lock though.
Its not even exclusively gatekeeping raiders. Its milking peoples sub time with intentionally bad development decisions. I guess we should expect as much when they milk so hard their employees cant get enough of it LMAO
Is anyone having difficulty grasping the concept? Who exactly is this directed towards?
You haven’t tanked, so you haven’t done everything. Also, players in wow tend to run raids more than once.
While I understand the qualms as I am someone who is playing a Mage and would like to play Mage healer and some of the abilities aren’t attainable for a while, there’s still 3 more phases to go.
I do agree that the Warlock one being behind the raid is silly. They shouldn’t have done it like that.
They want you to have experience in a raid before trying to perform the most sensitive of the 3 roles within that raid using semi-experimental runes to enable your abikity to do so on classes not originally intended to perform those roles?
The HUMANITY
This is a silly argument when Shaman have all 3 of their tank runes by level 12.
Them admitting they failed and refusing to fix their failure until after phase 1 is just a special level of either lying or incompetence.
It’s a classic raid man, plus don’t you want them to have experience with their tank spec before you’re max level for raid? Wouldn’t that make way more sense than saying “you must see the raid before you may tank”. Should have been achievable earlier so they could get more practice tanking. It was a mistake but what’s done is done at this point.
Are you going to quit raiding after you clear bfd one time?

Well, if I were designing a system like this where new abilities were added to classic I certainly wouldn’t dump them all in the players lap. I would give out obvious leveling abilities early and easy. I would be giving out quality of life improvements like the free wrath spam for druids as an example.
I would absolutely have an increasing level of effort required to get your rune page filled up. I would absolutely gate premium exotic runes like warlock tanking. The things people really remember fondly in an MMO are the things that they earned, not things that they were handed. All the people rambling on and on about this being “bad game design” clearly don’t know anything about actual game design.
Anyone who defends this would immediately change their tune the moment they locked class skills behind 1-2 months of PvP rep grinding. Which is about what it would take non raiders with no social clique to down 5 raid bosses.
It’s just raiders gatekeeping. Nothing more. Same old story.
Ikr how dare they give people an incentive to run the raid besides loot.
Legit people complaining about one of the cooler rune acquisitions in the game right now?
“oh no I have to do the only raid people are gonna be doing for 6ish weeks!” The horror that effort was put into getting one of if not the coolest rune added.
Boy howdy is it leagues more interesting than Rebuke was to get:
Go to cave
Loot box
Stun/kill 10 dudes
Or Crusade strike:
Kill dudes
Kill more dudes
Get rune
or maybe the one that copies the warrior rune for beating up a drunk in a bar, SUPER INTERESTING.
I’m sitting here hyped up for the remaining paladin runes I want that are behind long paths to get, makes it feel better and gives a greater sense of working towards getting something.
If you’re just gonna be lazy and complain then wait till P2 for it to be, allegedly, easier to get.
