How are Prot and Ret looking for Shadowlands?

470 Druid tank and 470 Havoc DH are my other classes. Looking at getting into some plate.

I’ve seen Ret in action in dungeons and they can put out some serious damage. Are they looking good for Shadowlands?

How is Prot at tanking? Loved my bear druid since I was basically immortal and with Twilight Dev I was able to occasionally burst some stuff down. Made soloing very effortless.

Currently, for prepatch, which may be a good chunk of time, Ret is the bottom of the mid tier, just escaping meme tier. Prot is actually doing the most damage of the Tanks on pre patch, but its Azerite trait stacking dependent.

I’ve heard on Shadowlands Beta that Ret is doing “Tank” damage, and it may not be a very competitive damage dealer. (What else is new)

Prot on Beta is also currently doing more damage than the other tanks, but at the cost of some fidgety rotation and personal survivalibility.

I would look at Unholy DK for serious damage in shadowlands, and honestly avoid Ret, Prot, & Holy time commitment until another balancing pass (or just accept being close to meme tier)

Appreciate the reply, but people were saying that Prot paladin is in a good place with Holy power system, and the Conduits and stuff make things really fun.

Do you know much about that aspect of things?

I would agree with that, im actually moving from my BDK to Prot pally for SL. first because I find the changes very fun, secondly because Prot pally is performing really well across the board. they are A tier for M+ and raiding. Id say progression raiding BDK and Monk are still a bit ahead but both are well behind in M+.

For Ret its performing as it usually does, middle of the pack. Its not weak in any content but not top tier either. A good player can obviously put on a show with one as most can with almost any spec. If you like it, learn it well and in most cases you will perform better then most.

Prot is looking really strong - very high dmg for a tank and holy power feels meaningful and fun to use. You really feel impactful as a tank that can effectively choose between damage or helping the healer heal.

Ret is looking average/below average as per usual, but it performs busier than previously with final reckoning and executioners sentence for a big 1 min burst. Unfortunately the spec is riddled with low proc rates (15%) on several of their talents and legendaries.

Holy was the most broken healer in the game at the end of BFA so naturally it’s fallen from grace with the weaker glimmer and relying on holy power moving into shadowlands. It also currently has mana issues and a few other problems.

If you had to choose a spec - prot is definitely the current winner.

for ret i would put a link in to a image of poo, but by saying that. you kinda get the idea.

Yea but you feel like a Dps wrecking ball. If you go full Dps Prot build it’s like playing Glad stance in WoD. You are just going big huge deeps and having fun flinging your sheilds around. I play Prot to do dmg though so I am enjoying the build options.

Tell. Me. More.

Seriously.

If you play the SoR build it makes Shield of the Righteous hit like a truck similar to Glad stance Shield Slam in WoD. There are tons of Dps modifiers and it got nerfed once because Prot was embarrassing Dps in groups because it’s so much fun to play and M+ groups failing cause they were specced heavy Dps.

It’s basically the SoR legendary combined with the Punish the guilty Conduit. Judgement increases your SoR by 25% then Punish conduit increases that at rank 1 by 100% and the legendary also adds stacks.

Then with vengeful shock conduit enemies hit by Avenger shield take increased holy dmg. So you Avenger shield or use Kyrian ability to get max stacks from Legendary they all take increased dmg… then judgement and Boom

Legendaries are supposed to get rebuffed. So will be interesting. However you can play Prot just like a glorified Dps or Glad stance. In Arena seen people hitting over 15k SoR. Sure it can go much higher.
