How are people RPing Drachtyrs nowadays?

Hi MG community!!

Long time no see!!! (I say this like anyone would recognize me on this toon lolol)

I remember asking and reading about Dracthyr RP right when they were first announced, and then again after they first dropped in pre-patch. However, since I’m too shy to ever give RP the full try I so desperately want to, I didn’t stick around on MG too long after the first raid started and just went back to my main servers.

So, I haven’t really gotten a chance to see how Dracthyr RP has turned out with time…so how goes it?

The last time I was on during pre-patch all open-world Dracthyr RP was kind of nutty…specifically in Stormwind. All the Dracthyr I ran across were nice enough, but the people interacting with them were basically treating them like they were a DK at the height of WOTLK, acting like they had rabies and wanted to steal royal secrets, or even accusing them of starting wildfires in Westfall (yes, this was a huge thing one day lolol).

  • Have RPers in general calmed down toward them now?
  • Are there any notable Dracthyr guilds? If so, what is their RP centered around?
  • Is open-world RP in general happening Valdrakken at all? Or is Stormwind still the top RP city overall?
  • Are most Dracthyr RPing in a militaristic type of way due to their background?
  • Are Dracthyr seriously RPing as dragons? Or is this more of a niche thing for a few RPers?

I’m just really curious! I’m really unhappy and miserable inside with guild cliques and politicking in endgame pve content on my main server, and RP has always interested me greatly. I always enjoyed my time on MG and love how nice and into the lore so many people are on the server.

Thanks for any insight/responses!! <3

As for Dracthyr guilds, you have Valdrakken Accord and another I forget the name! I have seen quite a few Dracthyr RPers around SW! I think it’s up to the player which Dragonflight to RP as. I’ve seen a few Twilight and Black! I think most would be active in Dragon Isles!

Pretty much. I’m sure there’s still the odd ball ‘Get outta m’town!’ roleplayer towards the Dracthyr, but when I was still going hard into the RP scene before taking a break from RP to do raid and M+ content, the Dracthyr roleplayers that stuck it out seem to have each found individual ‘homes’ Dracthyr roleplayers went from filling the streets to filling a palm. There’s like 10 of us.

It’s funny you mention that, because the entire reason I joined my PvE guild as opposed to an RP guild is because my Dracthyr guild disbanded and my character had a falling out IC with the human guild she joined. There’s the Valdrakken Accord, but I’m not sure if there’s any others.

It was absolutely magical when I saw open world RP in Valdrakken and nobody bothered them. I’m sure it’s there, but with the Diablo event kind of killing the RP scene and phasing… Eh. It’s Stormwind.

Not at all, but that’s a good way for Dracthyr to begin their RP adventure. A good chunk of the Dracthyr as a whole were woken up not even two months ago on the Forbidden Reach. They knew they were soldiers for the weyrn and their Creshe was overtaken by Primalists. They may not even have weyrns anymore. A good portion of my own Dracthyr’s RP history is knowing that ‘I am more than a soldier and a signet’ but also trying to battle back the entire purpose of her creation to BE a person. It’s been… complicated.

Some do! Dragons can take on any visage they please and no matter how many ‘Fun Police’ roleplayers grumble, it is lore viable AND Dragons are a more common sight as the Dragon Isles stirred up many from hiding. What better way for a dragon to ‘hide in plain sight’ than to be the dragon-like soldier people? Sure, some people get an inch and take a mile, but for the most part, I’ve no complaints about dragon roleplayers.

Oh trust me, the RP scene has politics too once you get in deep, as does every social aspect of real life and in-game. It’s a A LOT of fun, though, and it’s nice to just get away from the loot treadmill and… talk to people again in WoW.

My favorite stories in WoW were RP events I’ve had in the past. Make an alt and hang out, but, do it after the Diablo event’s over. Stormwind’s sharded right now. :frowning:

To be honest, after this expansion there will be a major drop off on interest and
any negative attention towards Dracthyr. It’s the way these things tend to go. After DF, unless Blizzard continues their storyline, they’ll just become another alliance/horde race.

But anyway, please come join in on the fun. If you have the TRP3 addon, maybe advertise that you’re new and seeking patient players to engage with you

I can 1000% see the Dracthyr turn basically into Pandarens in the sense that their story basically ceases and it’s just assumed we solved the majority of their problems and now they can live on their islands in relative peace, with some few choosing to wander amongst the alliance or horde.

I’ve found that the majority of Dracthyr RPers have abandoned their FOTM characters. I very rarely see more than a few from the pre-patch days, and currently, Obsidia has been around since.

I trend towards playing her as a calm, business-like, and taciturn adventurer. She wanders around as a healer and destroyer, carrying herself with a degree of tranquility. I got tired of the ‘What’s this dinglebop?’ thing within days of their species existing, and as such, avoid it.

There’s still a fair number of oddball characters who act like racist nutjobs, and more often than not, it’s a projection of someone’s OOC opinion on the race existing rather than a real character trait.

As for Dracthyr RP guilds, the only one I’m familiar with is The Valdrakken Accord. Obsidia is not a member, given that she has disagreements with others of her kind. Namely in her cautious reservations about The Titans and Dragon Aspects both.

Thank you so much for this awesome response!!! Sorry for the delay in responding, I lost my sub for a short while and was having a bunch of irl stuff happen Q.Q

I really hate that Blizzard just doesn’t care how this Diablo event has ruined major RP hubs for people! So inconsiderate to some of the most loyal WoW players. I really hope to see Valdrakken RP after the phasing issue is fixed! Valdrakken is SO beautiful, and so much of it is unused for normal PvE and PvP players…I feel like it would be such an amazing hub for RPing!!

Also super nice to hear that people have calmed down with Dracthyrs, as it was nutty in the beginning and while I don’t mind the occasional nutball, a constant stream of “OMG I BET YOU ATE ALL MY CATTLE!!! WHAT ARE YOUUUUU” type of interactions gets old after a short while lol

This actually makes a lot of sense!! Now that you mention it, I’m super curious how DH’s are RPing in general now!

I do have TRP! I love writing character stuff so I think before I even try RPing as a Dracthyr, I’m going to have fun typing up a backstory for my TRP!

Thanks for that info! I wonder if this guild is seen out and about in Valdrakken a lot! Would be interesting to snoop out how they’re RPing!!

All this info here has me excited to roll another Dracthyr on MG! I say another because I rolled with a name linked to the red dragon flight, and I don’t want to have a base name linked to a flight - hehe. Luckily she was only 60 so I don’t have to do much to catch back up to that starting point :3

Thanks again for the replies you guys!!!

Another Dracthyr Guild is the Magenta Scales, I don’t know a lot about them though.

On WrA, all the Dracthyr play extensive recreations of The Office.

They won’t let you join if you aren’t a Dracthyr. Even if you know a really good episode by heart.

Speaking as someone who started over on WrA with his dracthyr, Moonguard did have it’s short bit of people being jerks and the scaleripper incidents, but as of now it’s calmed considerably. That was jarring for me, honestly, but I was Hordeside for the first two-ish months.

Moving over to Moonguard and turning Topazel into an Alliance dweeb… They’re actually happier.

Though a lot of my experience was heavily influenced by having friends and a recognizable short yellow dracthyr, I garnered a lot of favor without knowing it.

As for how people play dracthyr? It’s a big whole palette now.

Topazel was a Healing Wing, but dropped the whole weyrn thing to become a botanist and ecological researcher for the Dragon Isles, primarily researching practical and medical uses for native flora and how to cultivate it in captive conditions.

Aside from that, they’re peppy, social, occasionally a butthead, sometimes giving out life and relationship advice, or just being a lizard in Stormwind. Though I primarily find RP in the good ol faction capital, I can find some out in the wild sometimes.

In terms of dracthyr guilds… There’s the two answers I’ve seen thus far, Valdrakken Accord and Magenta Scales. Both I interact with regularly on Topazel and my druid, Dejan, despite both characters not being in either guild.

So long as your character isn’t an outright bully, you’re likely to get along well with either guild, though VDA has an IC interview process if you don’t have people to vouch for you within the guild already, as well as guild-wide no-no taboo ‘do not touch that’ subjects. MS seems less strict, but that also means you have more wiggly waggle room to make your character what you want.

Pro tip, frequently /boop friends you make when you pass by them.

As far as I’ve seen the overt hostility against Dracthyr from some edgybois has calmed down, but there’s definitely some characters who don’t like them. As far as players OOC I have no idea. There’s pretty minimal precedent in the plot for people acting out assaults and beyond within Stormwind that said, and with the guard presence and elevated SI:7 presence monitoring them specifically I don’t consider it likely within that environment for much to happen in the first place.(Obviously people will come up with stuff to write about that occurring anyway, and that’s their prerogative to do so) Outside the city is, of course, another matter entirely.

I’ve seen some folks complain about guards ‘doing nothing’ but, yknow, they’re NPCs. So they would do something if you’re playing a character in that setting who acts up. Other than the main two mentioned Vigilant Wings is one I’ve seen a few members of here and there; Magenta Scales are cool, Valdrakken Accord is huge. I’m in none currently, been trying to keep apprised of Dracthyr events and seen few thus far.

Valdrakken has some RPers but the problem as with everywhere else is the sharding, and since you can’t change shards manually it’d have to be a party or raid group to not just randomly poof mid-rp. Boralus had this problem too.

Darkshire has a decent amount of RP things going on and was the go-to place for the past month due to the sharding in SW, then there’s the Moon Guard Discord which posts a variety of events and stuff.

I’ve seen ppl playing Dracthyr as a range of personalities and some wholly distance themselves from the past militaristic environment, some basically remain the same, and some go for a middleground. Mine is stoic, warrior-like, but slowly moving past the bad stuff in the past and the strict regimented behavior at all times.

I’ve seen some Dracthyr rp as dragons and say it’s their ‘visage’ form, so that’s up to them. Dracthyr obviously aren’t true dragons but it seems plausible one could maybe take a form resembling them.
