How are people getting to renown 40 so fast?

I know winning helps, same with the daily and 250 coin quest but what else?

Do your daily. Beeline for the storm scooping up easy and quick sources of plunder along the way. Try and gank someone lower for a little bit extra if you want.

If you are in a match for more than 5 minutes, you did it wrong.

Last empty spot, do daily quest, clear area

Get like 500-700 plunder there

Then get a few kills near the end and get about 1.5k at the end or more

I set a goal for myself each day, to do 5 a day. That way it only took 8 days of grinding. I started the tuesday it came out, and finished the very next tuesday.

You have two options. Do your quest, collect all immediate nearby loot, and die to the storm. OR, do your quest, collect all immediate nearby loot and just seek death in battle. You’ll either win fights and get even more plunder, or you’ll die and be on your way to the next quest.

Screw around with the gold elemental guy if you want to stick around a bit. Sometimes people will fight, but other times people are just poking him from range. He periodically drops a decent amount of plunder. I noticed a lot of players are squeamish about entering melee range of the boss due to his slam effect. If you’re lucky somebody else will get hit by his slam and you can pick them off for more plunder.

Note: the plunder he gives isn’t really significant, it’s just a little bit of entertainment to keep the grind from being too boring.

The gold elemental drops a significant amount of plunder if you aren’t immediately defeated by other players. If you can either hold your own, or end up in a match where no one fights until the chest (which was always my favorite, since I never wanted the chest lol) then you can get an additional 100-200 plunder from scavenging off the boss and the other PvP battles that happen around him.

Submit yourself to the Stormwall and the path shall be made clear.

Try to target 500+ every game. Rares help, gold chests are amazing, basically do anything that will get you to 500+ then die as quick as you possibly can. Don’t waste time.

I kept my goals small to avoid burnout and frustration:

  • Achieve 2-3 Renown each night

In the match, I always try to land in the less popular areas, complete Captain’s Orders as quickly as possible, and then just run along the edge of the storm collecting whatever I can find until I was either killed or collected at least 600 plunder before just bailing out into the storm.

Took roughly a week and some change to get Renown 40.

Be a real pirate and get all the booty!

Be aggressive. Get a feel for the abilities you have available by using them against players. Do it enough and you’ll start understanding how to combine whatever you have available. When I started playing that way, I think I ended up in the last 10 remaining 90% of the time. And I’m a mediocre player at best.

Focusing on doing the quest then not wasting time doing nothing helps.

If you’re not feeling like doing PvP, simply kill yourself and start over. You can get a couple renowns everyday easily.

A few people here have touched on the most important thing if you’re only goal is to grind to 40 as quickly as possible: DO NOT. WASTE. TIME.

Land. Do your captain’s quest and collect whatever plunder comes across your path while running into the storm.

Do not PVP.
Do not roam the open lands looking for more plunder.
Do not waste time ending your game. The sooner you die, the sooner you’ll get into the next game for another 500 quick plunder.

Please note, this is only for people who want to grind to 40 and never return. If you find Plunderstorm fun, by all means stick around, fight, hunt, go for the win.

Persistence. Jump in, do the quest, try to gather 250 more plunder (for a total of 500), and then run into the storm so I can do it again. The faster I can get all of that done, the better.

It wasn’t “fast” per se because it still took me over 200 matches…but it was fast in that I did it in 4 nights.

where to go we go then

+1 for the quest, die, repeat strategy. I gained levels faster sticking to that as opposed to trying to stick around the whole match. Got to renown 40 and noped right out of there.

First question: How good are your twitch skills? If you have done MOBAs or BRs, then you can be more aggressive because there are a lot of times where a player will land on you and want to duke it out. Laying them out cold takes time, but less time than starting over and waiting in the lobby.

There is the endgame. Pretty much the entire game depends on where you land. I liked Faldir’s Cove because if you watched the skies carefully, you could squash the elite on the shore, on the ship, or going up the hill, gather some loot, perhaps even finish the captain’s quest, before heading out.

Your “money time” is at the start of the game. Once the storm starts closing in, it is pretty much deal with PvP, or just haul it into the storm for the next round. So, try to find your favorite places to land where you are not on the bird long, unless the place is really good.

The last thing you want to be doing is looking around the plains for stuff. At best you will find a mob or two, but players will see you from a distance and beeline for you. If this happens, maybe run into other players, so the PvP-ers fight each other after you. However, the trick is to loot as much as you can in an area, ideally finish the captain’s quest, join the storm, and repeat.

Always keep HP topped off.

The Hog is useful… just make sure you deploy it, then click on it. From there, haul to either deep in the storm, or run around until you find a place with mobs and chests, and continue from there. Usually I get a few people just dedicated on PvP-ing, run into the storm, and watch them expire right after I do, because they want that kill so badly.

Bingewatching shows on the other monitor helps, a lot.
