Trying to decide between DH, warrior and monk. I never played monk, but they seem like the forgotten class of the game. But they look like a ton of fun.
DH is of course regarded as good/best soloers, though limited to one race with them is meh and it feels a bit overplayed. Its a lot of fun to play though and very actiony. My fury warrior has a TON of self healing, its only level 50 but wow the self healing is insane at lower levels and supposedly doesn’t get any worse even in endgame levels.
Though I do mostly solo. On one hand though, when I do group I do like to heal which monk is only class of the 3 I’m deciding that heals. But I still want to be able to solo stuff, and I get mixed responses about that with monk. Mostly that they are (at least brewmasters) need a healer. Though I heard that with warriors too and they get tons of healing, even prot (though not as much as fury).
I don’t imagine monks are the worst though. But is it a viable way to play monk? Or are they better class with a friend and I’d be better with DH/warrior?
Also as a last note. I don’t play with warmode on so I don’t get pvp traits. Don’t find it fun being ganked and dying all the time in pvp, I just like to play the game. Plus with warmode off, I noticed in BFA areas at least, killing rares/bosses (not regular mobs though) is co-op cause I get credit for horde killing bosses even if they start the fight. Thats more my thing.
Thanks
Tank DH’s have a decent amount of self-healing as far as I know. Their dps spec has quite a bit too, so surviving isn’t hard. By “solo,” I’m taking it that you mean non-group content; which I’ll just openly say that no specs have an issue with solo content. Brewmasters do need a healer, but their stagger mechanic and health is enough that simple content like that wouldn’t be an issue. Warriors… their tank spec does need a healer, but Fury’s self-healing is pretty strong.
Honestly, you’ll probably get this from a lot of people, but just play how you want. Play what you want. I personally do mistweaver for all forms of content including solo; the ability to heal myself is a lot easier to play with than Windwalker’s… less than satisfactory healing. For reference to the OP, Vivify isn’t a strong heal for Windwalker. It’s one of those “it’s something at least” heals.
I’m one of those guys who enjoys leveling as a tank spec. As with most tank specs, you can pull big groups of typical leveling mobs and can handle big elites solo as a general rule.
VDH was actually quite good for solo leveling. Spirit bomb qas pretty much everything, and meta plus demon spikes allowed enough DR and self healing to pull you out of most difficult jams.
Brewmaster is a little more reliant on outside healing, but save up your expel harm orbs until you need them and vivify to fill in gaps or after pulls that drop you below 50%. Monk has a couple of unique abilities that allow you to not take damage for a few seconds: summon ox statue and ring of peace. Learn how to use these effectively and it will come in handy in mythic plus when you get there. The way monk takes damage is also unique. Stagger allows us to take a small portion of at hit up front and take the rest as a dot over a specific amount of time. This dot acts as one damage debuff but each hit will roll off when it is supposed to independently of any other hit. That is to say it doesn’t refresh. Stagger makes us incredibly effective at smoothing out damage received, but also makes us much more reliant on a healer.
Monk also has very low armor and parry, so our only reliable DR is dodge. Thanks to our mastery, dodge is actually something we can depend upon.
Monks do higher damage than VDH both in single target and in aoe, because keg smash is ridiculous.
Warriors are probably the best at soloing due to ignore pain and shield block reducing a lot of damage, their numerous and very strong cooldowns for damage reduction, aoe (cone) stun, high armor, and burst aoe damage. It can get insane very quickly…and a lot of fun.
Plus you can smash people in the face with a shield. How fun is that.

Monk is different in that if you want to pull like a tank, it’s much easier to accomplish that on windwalker than brewmaster. Windwalker has a self healing cooldown and killing a mob heals you via orbs on the ground.

Thanks
seems thats the census in the game from what people told me, if I stick with monk I guess windwalker is actually better for soloing than brewmaster is. A bit different than like prot paladin or blood DK that (back in legion) can pull the entirety of suramar and survive.
I’ve been trying my DH, but dunno. Class is fun, but the theme and how they look isn’t really my thing. Don’t like their voices either
So its kinda down to warrior or monk for me. Warrior I think may be better for soloing, someone on warrior forum posted how his fury warrior can solo world bosses. But I dunno what his item level is or anything, don’t think he was posting on his warrior. But I think monk is more fun and unique. Warrior is just a warrior lol.
As for soloing. I actually do endgame content in EU WoW region (most of my friends are in europe). Its too much time invested to do endgame content in two completely different regions. So thats why if someone looks, don’t have much achievements here since most of that is over in EU lol.
So I like to be able to solo, but have fun at same time when I’m playing in US region. One reason I’m not too fond of paladin or DK, I’m more into the fast paced soloing classes these days.
quite honestly for soloing and leveling out of war mode ww kind of sucks compared to DH. We lack the parry during FoF and the reverse harm self healing both of which enable larger pulls and make us kind of invincible. WW feels better with war mode on.
