I main a warlock and fury warrior but I’m not quite satisfied by either one of those. I love my lock, but the specs are too situational imo, raiding with affliction then pretty much having to change specs for m+. My warrior is ok, but i keep finding myself wishing I was ranged.
How are mages? Is there a GOOD dps spec you can raid with and do m+? I know frost is getting a small buff for 8.3, is now a good time to switch?
I would avoid playing a 3-spec DPS if you don’t like swapping. It isn’t uncommon for Mage to end up playing 2 or 3 specs depending on the content. For now, Fire is the go-to spec for the current tier and M+ season.
I suggest trying Destro on your Warlock if you want to run the same spec in all content. Running Felpuppy gives you an interrupt, Destro is really good in raid due to every fight that matters having something to Havoc, you’re a huge threat in PVP, and M+ damage isn’t that bad. You have much less mobility than Aff, but it’s not that bad on most fights in EP.
Inevitably, balance will change in unpredictable ways. Don’t try to play a spec or class based on its relative tuning in future patches. Specs live and die by class/spec tuning, fight design, and fight tuning.

I normally just play what I like regardless of tuning…seems to be working out ok lol

I tried fire for the first time in a higher level key (a 12).
Not sure if I’m supposed to spam Flamestrike or if I go single target on an ad and let the ignite-spread do the damage.
Gonna have to hit the websites. I HATE learning a new spec.

My experience is you need to take Flame Patch for M+ runs or your non-boss damage will be rather weak. The WoWhead Guide advice is that with Flame Patch you hard cast Flamestrike on 3+ targets, cast Flamestrike with Hot Streak on 2, but if Combustion is running go back to Pyroblast. Doesn’t seem too complex.
On-death affixes like Bursting, Bolstering, and Sanguine may change your priority of course.
I read a separate guide which stated to run your standard single target rotation on the ‘biggest mob’ in the group and just replace pyro with flamestrike (for multiple targets). Now I’m confused.
You want to ST combust a high health target to allow your ignite to build (if the target dies before a big ignite is built combustion is mostly wasted). Beyond that you want to hard-cast Flame strike trash packs and switch to scorch to proc hot streaks sub 30% while continuing to FS if you don’t need to even out health due to affixes.
Thank you, makes sense. Just the thought of hard-casting flamestrike hurts me though lol
Yep you would use fire blast to keep BM up and instant flamstrikes but just hardcast mostly.
Interesting.
I ran last night with Living Bomb. I’ll try a few keys tonight with Flamestrike/Patch and see how it goes.
I didn’t check WoWhead for a guide. I’ll check it out, thanks!
