I’ve been playing a Druid as my main for the last 3 expansions now and have really enjoyed it. It’s a very fun and versatile class. My plan was to play Druid in Classic. I’d like some input on what the class is like during the Vanilla era. Thanks.
all people on the forums will tell you is you will be healing. idk how true this will be since i didnt play vanilla but all i can say is ive read alot of post from people and thats the common response. regardless though i will be playing one myself and not care
I was that odd one out in Vanilla. I played Balance.
gasp!
Also: Classic forum is that way ---->
Yeah I’ve heard that Resto is the way to go and the way to be most useful as a Druid during Vanilla. I honestly don’t have a problem with that. I love healing and good healers are hard to come by. And I probably won’t have a lot of trouble in world PVP as long as it’s 1v1.
You might want to ask in the apropiate forum.
They’ll be more than glad to talk about vanilla, it’s practically the only thing people do today.
I meant to create this in the Classic forum, idk what happened. If a moderator could move this thread that’d be nice, thanks.
Classic forum might get you a more in-depth response. The druids I raided with healed almost exclusively. We did have a bear that occasionally got to off tank, or main tank farm content.
Feral seemed decent in pvp as long as they weren’t trying to face tank my warrior in cat form.
The old way was “if your class can, you heal”.
But you didn’t do much raid healing as a Druid. You auto attacked the boss in cat form and then gave innervate to the priests.
You can do whatever you want in dungeons though.
If you’d like, you can edit the thread and.move it to Classic. They gave us that ability on these new forums, which is nice. Lord knows I’ve done it before.
They were healers.
the pros are: you can shift and use all the abilities as opposed to now you care limited to one tree, they are great healers and bring MOW and everyone likes buffs
cons that I can remember are: casters was OOM very quickly, tank wasn’t really that active in raiding
don’t get me wrong bear was fine for daily things and some light dungeoning. However, for serious raiding the expectation was to buff and group heal. When I played my druid in raids I hotted up everyone I could and put some dots around when I could and kept everyone buffed. So a little dps a little healing and a little utility. An battle rez
Druids were truly hybrids back in classic and valued as such
Thanks I didn’t know I could do that. Edited to Classic board. /moo
I think I’ll commit to resto. Is there such thing as a viable resto/dps spec?
All guilds will want one at least for MotW / faerie fire / insect swarm. These are high priority buffs / debuffs they bring to the table. Unfortunately they don’t beat out any dps class or any healing class in static numbers on the meter. If the guild is semi-serious or even serious, you’re unlikely to see more than 1 of them and they will always be resto.
Just my opinion / input though as a veteran and having run serious shows myself
I honestly can’t remember. But I’m pretty sure I went half and half at one point. Just for fun while I leveled. I never did progression raiding in Vanilla. I raided towards the end for fun with a guild of friends who had already cleared the raids.
There are some raids that choose a single feral druid grouped with physical DPS for the Leader of the Pack buff (3% crit)
While leveling up expect versatility so long as you maintain multiple sets of gear. At level cap expect to heal or get benched.
They are probably the weakest class as a whole. That is typically why they are the least played. In reality they are just a little weaker. Druid used to be a support class, they are not anymore in retail.
Keep in mind that unlike in current WOW, druids are expected to DPS, heal and support other players throughout the entire boss fight. So you can’t just tunnel the boss in Classic. You will never really top any specific chart, but if you combine all the charts you will do well. But no one will ever do that except Druids, so don’t expect praise.
If you have only played a Druid for 3 expansions and like it than I would roll a Warrior (Guardian), Rogue (Feral), Mage (Moonkin) or Priest (Resto). Druids in Classic are very different than today’s Druids.
The few that I knew well:
Open world pvp, nearly unkillable, always able to survive and escape.
BGs, by far best flag carriers.
PVE: Do what you enjoy for levelling and dungeons, at 60 expectations will be to heal.
Many will expect you to heal only at end game. A versatile 3 role druid is best.
That said feral is the leveling spec. Balance goes out of mana(OOM) so fast and resto takes forever to kill mobs. You can still heal as feral and can also tank. We’re faster levelers than most due to less downtime with our forms and self heals.
If you’re going to be a druid learn how to tank and heal. You’re going to get more groups that way. And we aren’t the best at any of the three roles. Realize that and revel in being a hybrid. The more flexible you are the more you can do at 60. We will probably be the least played class. Enjoy it. Get friendly with your fellow druids. We had a good community in Vanilla. Hope we have a good one in Classic too!
I find leveling a druid to be terrible. While other classes get more and more abilities druids get like 4 spells 1-10, 3 for 10-20 then like 3 for 20-30 because the best way yo level suckd so much. They are probably the best dungeon tanks until 60 imo. I dont think you can really make boomkin work at really any point in the game.
