Crests are never going to be account-wide. They replaced valor, which also wasn’t an account-wide currency.

You’re very well geared but don’t seem to be pushing rating. Why are you still collecting crests on your warlock instead of playing those alts?

There’s no problem with it, but as Nikolo pointed out, its not likely to happen.
If they were going to make crests account-wide, they probably would’ve done it when they lifted the crest cap.
And the reasoning behind why it’s not likely to happen is “oh cuz this other currency wasn’t a really long time ago, like 15 years ago”.

Valor in this context was introduced in 9.0.5 (Shadowlands) and retired in 10.1 (DF).
Players farming low level keys to get drops, and then upgrading them to their max using amassed valor was seen as “degenerate gameplay” and cited as one of the reasons the devs created what they call an evergreen system (what we have today).
I guess you could make an argument that the upgrade tracks are enough of a deterrant against degenerate gameplay by forcing players to run certain key thresholds for their gear, but someone farming 11s (and therefore only dealing with 2 affixes) to farm gear they could potentially upgrade to 476 using crests earned on a different character, is apparently not what the devs want players to be doing.
This is why I think crests won’t be made account-wide.

I mean you did the difficult content, you earned the crest.
There is some other ulterior motive at play here with account wide stuff, it’s not because of one single season in the xpac I didn’t play.

What’s never made sense to me is how you can have character boosts and split runs where an entire raid gears out your alt in one lockout basically. But then they draw the line at giving your own currency that you earned to your own character. It just seems like utter nonsense to me.

Yea letting boosting run rampant never made sense and I can agree on that. xd
They should remove whelping crests and flightstones.
Keep upgrades as 15 Crest/Upgrade Track and allow a 40% BoA discount for items of an ilvl ooorrrr
The “dreaming of…” achievements could be a BoA discount that gives you a discount for the appropriate crest track

I agree with them being account wide, even more so at the end of the season, but just funnelling mid/high end gear, crests included, from the main to alts, is something Blizzard really does not want to happen.
Gotta pad that play time somehow.

No, the reasoning is that primary gear progression/upgrades should not come from playing an entirely different character. Getting things like BoA catch-up gear to bring alts to a starting baseline is one thing, and it’s another to say you want to knock out some 18s on your Death Knight to upgrade your Shaman’s Heroic raid gear.
Even muddled as it is by M+, character progression should be maintained as reflective of your skill and accomplishments with that skill set. Not to mention the massive issue that would be alt farming to progress a main, which should never, ever happen.

Flight stones aren’t account wide, so crest won’t be either I fear. I mean it’d be cool to see reputations for old factions go account wide as well as god having to grind them out numerous times is annoying.
They tend to not want the best way to gear a character to be not playing it.

Though getting Wyrm crests from Heroic reclears is annoying when your main can’t use them and alts can. But guilds usually don’t want people to bring alts. I am hoping the ‘warbands’ coming will be more open to letting currency be an account thing.

Can just spam keys to gear fast. +11 is easy and you can use it to 476. Uncapped too so you can get even Aspect stuff if you go hard enough.
I dun really see a need to send them between characters.
We are still in the patch where they were current. The catch up patch will be the fated season. Expect crest conversions, and easier alt gearing, plus a dinar like system.
