Make every outland zone 50-60.
Maybe also remove the need for flying.

And ally shaman/horde pallys, gamestore mounts, gamestore boosts, etc.
I’d rather see the inside of Timbermaw Hold, a Scarlet Crusader raid, and/or the Emerald Dream portals.
Long as we are not pigeonholed into TBC talents system… its ironically bad.
Also gear from AQ and Naxx needs its item level nerfed down to Epic item level 63… Furthermore any sets from TBC content would also be nerfed down so they are no more powerful than epic item level 63…
Buuuut the difference would be all the gear and set options presented.
I had a lot of fun on Skyfury the first month when it was the TBC prepatch. I think things like level caps or extended prepatches on a seasonal or fresh progression server could be fun.
Yeah, normalize the strength of the gear from the various content. And maintain the loose talent system of vanilla.
Kinda make it like ESO where you got plenty of sets you build around rather than being pigeonholed into the most recent set only.
Like I dont mean to crap on TBC design, it has some good things for Prot Pala, Enhance and Ret pala, but everything else is worse…
Well, minus the loss of tank spec.
But yeah, the overall idea is something like a progression server for the expansions that doesn’t completely invalidate the past ones.
I actually like this idea. I would think making the tiers match the phases in strength would be good filler raids too. I.E. SWP and Naxx reward the highest ilvl gear whereas Gruuls/Mag is similar to MC.
This would give both sides Paladins and Shamans which is one glaring issue obvious on Hardcore realms.
Instead of giving out new toolkits, maybe limit it to 1-2 spells for each class.
There was a private server which I didn’t play but we do have a model for how such a thing worked from the 2 weeks of tbc prepatch. It was fun bringing paladin buffs and wf into naxx. Being able to dot all the things. And more viable classes but more group comp math. While not outland there is a growing set of players who off the prepatch would think tbc would be a good baseline talents to work off of for a potential vanilla+ we might get in 2025.
Interesting idea, but I think it may be more work than doing a classic+ from scratch built on era.
Imo TBC add more negatives than positives to the game, a lvl 60 tbc version would probably be worse than era is currently.
Well, largely the negatives of TBC was the raised level cap and invalidation of what came before it. Effectively shrinking wow, a pattern they would repeat every expansion…
That is a negative but there were others.
The list goes on, the are so many negatives TBC that simply make the game way more bland and less flavorful.
But the biggest issue is that it would take dev work to downgrade everything to 60 and the outcome is more likely to be closer to retail-style than era, since those are the current teams available. So you can expect vanilla, with tbc nerfed to lvl 60, all done in the style of retail.
You neglected to mention Flying Mounts and Cross-Faction Classes.
Out of all those things, this is the least concerning. Engineering holds a near monopoly over crafted items that hold lasting utility for all classes at all stages in the game. Alchemy is the only other one that comes close. The discrepancy in value that can be milked from Engineering versus a crafting spec like Macesmithing is pitiful.
id really like to see this but make it be outland before illidan, during a time when magtheridon ruled the outland and he would be in control of the black temple instead. also while we are at it make northerend scaled to lvl 45-60 aswell with the lich king frozen on his throne and the azjol nerubian emipre is descimating everything. pretty much add these things but show the zones before any expansions. but having more content on eastern kingdoms and kalimador is more important
That’s how they should have handled TBC originally.
And WotLK should have been level 20-59 content + the new end game raids.
If max level characters really needed new excuses to go grind more mobs/quests they should have added Alternate Advancement options and an actual Mentoring System(temp decrease in level in order to group with lower lvl friends. Boosting friends xp + gaining xp to your Alt Adv).
Adding more levels on top was so lazy.
Yeah I did not play enough TBC enough to clearly discuss professions - the other things killed it for me within a couple weeks of 70.
The main thing I was thinking with eng nerf - was pvp stuff - like grenades, helms, rocket boots, etc. - I don’t think they were useable in arenas, which is the main pvp mode of tbc right? (I could be wrong here… I only played it a tiny bit to give it a chance but overall the expansion was just so boring compared to vanilla).
Quality idea.
Thinking along those lines would lead to a proper Classic+
More finely tuned item power scaling and differentiation.
Changing the way some sets are obtained. Questlines vs. pure drops etc.
Tier Sets could be much more similar in “item power” but sets could be geared to different talent trees/hybrids or even abilities/enemies etc.
There’s a lot of room for creative people to expand.
