Was running an HoV on my monk alt and the shield you cast for Ragnarok kept disappearing. With some light investigation I was able to prove that using expel harm while inside the shield removes the shield earlier than it should. Please look a tthis and get it fixed devs.
What spec were you playing and were you holding the shield when you EH’d?
brewmaster monk and yes I had the shield
hmm I didn’t notice this one, I think Spinning Crane also drops the shield since it’s channeled.
it does, i noticed this too.
Its frustrating as I dont have this issue on Paladin, Warrior, Druid, or DH.
So it needs to be fixed.
tbh, I’ve never noticed that expel harm breaks the Aegis channel, mainly because you’re essentially immune to damage while channeling it, and the fight is not intensive on the tank such that you’re likely to be low HP prior to him casting Ragnarok, so unlikely to need to cast EH anyway.
While it is odd that EH breaks the channel, since it’s instantly cast like most of the rest of our rotation which doesn’t break the channel, I don’t think it’s particularly horrible that it does so. Simply don’t use EH while channeling the Aegis, the same as you don’t use Spinning Crane Kick.
Well, I won’t speak for Pal/War/Druid, but having played VDH, Fel Devastation also causes you to drop the shield, so it’s not like this is a brew specific issue. I imagine if a guardian druid or prot pal starts casting regrowth or flash of light during the Aegis channel it’d break for them as well.
So yeah, it’s weird that EH interrupts the channel, but it’s not an urgent bug that’s breaking the encounter… just don’t use EH during Aegis.
Ahh so this is what happened to my BrewMonk friend that one run. He couldn’t figure out why it dropped.
This has been a thing since Legion. Anything that has a cast or channel bar will cancel the shield, and for some dumb reason Expel Harm is included in that list despite being an instant cast.
Recommend posting this in the bug forums.
Those forums are visited by devs to fix problems, monk forums not so much.
Good catch!
