Housing rage

Well, again, maybe just like… don’t do that?

You can dismiss any request by saying “lol they’ll mess it up”. That’s a dead end of a conversation.

Furniture requires ore, herbs and skins from all expansions.

Pre-fabbed furniture can be found in outdoor zones, inside instances, on worlds bosses.

There.

Now there are people out in the world farming to get better stuff for their houses.

It also makes no sense. SWTOR has personal housing and the world isn’t devoid of people.

Blizzard has said they want to add housing (it was actually mentioned in a pre-shadowlands interview if I remember correctly, but I might be mistaken on that), but it’s a matter of getting the system right, because getting housing right is definitely one of those make or break systems. Get it right and people will love your housing system for years. Get it wrong and people will hate you for it.

People in runescape are always in the world and not mostly in their houses.

I’m sure that’s the case for FF14 too.

Your excuse is so sad and bad.

Housing is a fairly nasty project. It’s expensive to make technically in terms of development hours/requirements, there’s no guarantee that most players will bother with it past the initial bit of “oh, that’s neat” time, and it’s likely a bit of a PR risk as well.

When none of those situations are optimal, and the game has done quite well despite its absence. Is it worth risking the effort?

I don’t think the house has to have everything a city has…I think it is more for player collectibles and expression.
Not trying to nitpick, but I don’t think people AFKing in cities is all that exciting. I’d rather people be out collecting things for their houses and having other activities to do.
Garrisons ended up being a little personal mecca for people because it had everything a city has in it.

Anything is worth it right now, I’m sure plenty of people are tired of the same content over and over again.

Less combat, more diversity in the content is what this game truly needs.

This is in large part because Blizzard utterly dropped the ball and then kicked it down the sewer for good measure.

The original garrison was supposed to be able to go to any zone in WoD and could easily have been a core feature that moved with us from expansion to expansion. In fact, the garrison could be fleshed out so much it would literally become a core part of the game for all players. The sad thing too is the foundation is already there. You could have a wing for each class that unlocks once you level a class to max (the garrison would be an account wide thing), as you earn exalted status with factions, you would have guards and/or other random features present from said faction.

You could have profession areas that unlock as you level up professions and even have your active toon “command” your others to work their profession work orders. You could have a great hall where boss kill trophies are displayed along with plaques showing the kill date and said trophy can upgrade when you get a harder difficulty kill.

You could have an armory where you can set up mannequins to show off built sets and/or display prominent gear on the walls and stuff.

Everything from quests to raid bosses could drop collectibles that could go to your garrison (or even be made/crafted).

I still contend that the garrison is among the greatest lost potential item Blizzard ever made.

personally I’d rather see guild halls, than straight up player housing, but I see the appeal.

Maybe give players their own room in said guild hall.

Yep. Character power progression is a substantial motivator to keep people playing.

Will furniture placement in a private instance cause the same motivation in a similar number of players?

Personally I agree with you. As a hunter I really felt a connection to the things I like about the class. Being able to see my mounts displayed really made me feel connected and excited to go out and collect things.
It was close and probably with out that I would have absolutely hated WOD, but I really enjoyed WOD and it was because of the garrison.

ESO too and works fine.

If that was true i hope they dont throw out of window the expansion after

As wow is one of the longest running leaders of the genre and it doesn’t have player housing, maybe player housing isn’t a staple of the genre.

I think eventually if we aren’t already there; wow is going to have to do something with player housing. It feels like they are being left behind by other MMO’s that are trying to make it work.
WOW not having many things that cross expansions is hurting them badly. The things that sort of cross expansions (archeology, pet battles to an extent, heck, PVP battlegrounds) don’t seem to get the upkeep and love they deserve. It all boils down to something new in current xpac and dead in the next.

It absolutely will. Far more people play this game to chase down old raid sets/mounts/pets/etc than they do try and be a tryhard parsing content. And it isn’t like the tryhards would be left out either. Plenty of them get way too much of a kick as is showing off their exclusive stuff in public spaces and good for them.

You are mistaking the fact that people currently push progression as joyful willingness to do so simply because we don’t have much of a game otherwise…especially for vanilla vets like myself who don’t even have much old stuff to farm for since we either got it during the relevant period and/or it doesn’t appeal to us in the first place.

The housing market is crazy, Blizz could fix it buy letting us build more houses.

Ah yes, I can see how creative you are.

You forgot about the “house parties” with your friends where you could have a duel ring, your own “mini dungeons” even to challenge people. Could use your house to do professions as well. And that’s just the beginning of it. It’s a fun addition that changes the monotony.

Also, I don’t agree with your first point. I was starting to get stronger on my warrior with better gear and it did nothing for me. Why bother getting good gear if I’m gonna use it for boring and repetitive content? If the gear treadmill was just a part of WoW and not the entirety of it that would make it a little better.

Love the post and agree! :beers:

I’m down for swtor or wild star style housing. Have furniture and items as craftable and drops from dungeons and raids. Sell the plots in different locations. Can be used as a gold sink.
