Housing needs functionality

For context: WoD basically killed this game for me. I get it, nobody wants a second garrison with all the grind of a covenant and a new BlizzardBucks currency.

But what this system badly needs is some excuse for other players to visit my house. Otherwise these neighborhoods risk looking/feeling forever abandonded, like they do right now. Like the player vendor objects several other games use.

Something that I think could work here is if we could place crafting tables (with the work order tab) that our own accounts can’t use. Say my neighbor builds a smithy in their house/yard with a forge/anvil/crafting table, and I have a blacksmith. I can’t just make my own and hide away in my solo instance, but I can park in my neighbor’s if they allow it.

I think things like that would do a much better job of populating the neighborhoods. If too many people have multiple accounts this example falls apart, but as it stands I can’t imagine why any of you would ever visit my particular house at all besides “morbid curiousity” or an endeavor quest like “enter 5 player homes in the opposing faction’s neighborhood.” Which kinda kills the idea of neighborhoods as a social hub IMO.

I was surprised that there wasn’t a scavenger hunt Endeavor on Beta. Find these things in your neighborhood. The things could be inside or outside the houses. Maybe it exists but wasn’t in the list on beta.

Good ideas!

Are the training dummy furnishings functional or just decorative?

I think a lot of life can be added without functionality, and likely will be in the future.

Even just more decorations on the roads, NPCs walking about, a roadside camp, maybe an Undertaker in the graveyard, etc.

Also, the housing stuff isn’t even fully released! I do agree that maybe some actual interactable items will allow more fun though, that secret bookcase decor for example is great!

Basic functionality would be nice.

I should be able to fight my dummy,

I should be able to cook in my ovens (all of them)

My mailbox should mailbox.

It’s an RP space. It’s a space for players to create their own “functionality”.

I’m aware of a big neighborhood event happening this week being advertised. It’s just a big party for folks to show off their houses.

It doesn’t need to duplicate existing functionality to be useful. They can add more features that give us ways to engage with the neighborhood in new ways instead. I like the scavenger hunt idea.

But sure, I’ll take a mailbox and lore cooking ovens.

Talking about functional things..omg.. every time I emote sit on my chair it makes me sit backwards??? :sob: :sob: And if you scale the chair too big your char clips right thru it???  Same thing with the bed I emote sleep and I’m halfway off the bed

it would be cool if certain holidays interfaced with housing. hallow’s end and trick or treating quests for houses. easter egg hunts during noblegarden, stuff like that.

That’s not a bad idea for an endeavor, and those are a good system to start adding reasons to look at other houses.

I’d like to eventually see a house tour version of Trial of Style, give them a thumbs up if you like it or a gold star if you’re highly impressed. But that’s way more work to implement so it won’t happen for a long time. Needs something more in the short term.

One i would like is our own portal rooms. Portals main purpose is to go out in the world so nothing is lost if we get it. And the benefit of not having to port to org/sw is minor enough

Definitely needs some functionality.

• Mailbox (that works). This is not going to keep me from checking mail in the world.
• Cooking in all stoves (as previously mentioned). This is not going to keep me from cooking in the world.
• Crafting station unlocks for your profession. In my case, I’d like an engineering table/anvil to craft on. This is not going to keep me from crafting in the world most of the time.
• Portal that you are allowed to connect to one Inn in game (or portal room in Org/SW), separate from your hearthstone.
• Barber Mirror so that I can change my appearance in home. This is not going to keep me from changing my appearance in the world, which is something I rarely do anyway.
• Transmog “wardrobe”. A wardrobe that allows the player to transmog their gear. This will not keep me from transmogging in the world either at a vendor or using the transmog guy toy.
• A “Garage” that lets you place a single mount. You could click on your mount to mount up (without actually calling your mount). Or it could work like a flight path, but uses your mount to fly to the destination. I spend a lot of time flying to the town area for plants and what not. This would make that a bit more exciting.
• Switches that allow you to connect a light or chain of lights to turn lights on and off. If being used, the option to dismantle being able to click on lights so that the switch is the only option.

EDIT to add: Interior doors/hidden bookcases that activate by a switch (or a “hidden” switch). Think Batman using a hidden bookcase to get to the Batcave and uses a statue bust as the “switch” or trigger. And same as above, if these are connected with a switch, their interactivity is rerouted to the switch. This would create a bit more of a “puzzle” when trying to navigate the access of a hidden door/bookcase.

Rotate the chair lol

If this is a backless stool or bench then you can simply rotate it 180°. However, if this is a chair/bench with a back, then you should submit that as a bug report either in-game or in the Bug Report forum.

Known issue, but the more often they hear it in a Bug Report, the more likely is it will move up the priority until it actually gets fixed in an upcoming build (instead of always “below the line” for what’s in the backlog that will actually get a fix).

Chairs are tricky because they don’t want to break the ability to put miniature hidden stools inside things to create sittable surfaces.

If sitting position only changed when >100% scale and not below then that would work, but nothing in the game was built to work that way so it might be very hard to add.

I think the house itself should have:

a mailbox that works
a wardrobe that allows transmog changes
a stove or oven for cooking

Any other functionality should be available in the town center.

I agree. Housing should off the top of my head have:

-Mailboxes
-Training Dummies
-Trade Chat

And maybe you could add auction houses and banks but the former would have to be a gold sink.

Already a thing. There is already stove/grill/oven decor that allows cooking.

100% this! I made an Emerald Dream portal and it would be amazing if there was a way to make it work for real

There is a oven that allows cooking.

I know there are already functional cooking decor pieces; I was just giving my list of what functions I think the plot should have.. those included.
