I keep coming back to the housing test even though I have other things to do. That’s one of the highest compliments I can give it. I spent a lot of time just looking at the different pieces. They are so well made!
I have added comments on other posts, but wanted to do a “wrap up” feedback post of my own.
- I’m hopeful more words will be added to the neighborhood name generator. There were a lot of “Somber” places.
- I bought both Alliance and Horde houses. I couldn’t figure out how to navigate between them.
- Interacting with the neighborhood plots was frustrating. The flyover “trespassing” area felt too high. I triggered it a lot while not even looking at someone’s house.
- If someone has their plot set to be open to all, could there be a “Welcome” sign by the cornerstone? Also, could the plot number be visible without needing to click the stone and dismount? Speaking of plot numbers…. Having the numbers scattered felt disjointed.
- I love that the inside of the house does not need to match the outside. It was fun trying different floor plans and I am glad I did this on the PTR. It would be awful to decorate a “real” room only to discover I needed to delete it to adjust the floor plan.
- One thing I would love is for the “hallway” to have connection points down the length of it. Make it a “rectangular room”. And some off-center connection points would allow for more creative floor plans.
- It would be helpful to have a better idea of how long it will take to level renown. Part of me doesn’t want to start decorating until I have access to all possible rooms and can finalize the room placement.
- Will we need to earn renown with both our Horde AND Alliance houses, or will our renown apply to both?
- On a related note, if there are different endeavors in our neighborhoods, will we be able to do quests for both?
- I would love to see items added to the catalog that would give our houses a “lived in” feel. Items like muddy boots to sit by the door. Rifle to place on the hooks on that one fireplace. Other weapons/shields. Cloaks or robes to hang on hooks (and a variety of wood or metal hooks/pegs). Hats, blankets, a pile of dirty laundry. A Lonely Sock. = ) Then our neighborhoods will become famous for Lonely Sock parties, where we hide the Lonely Sock somewhere in our house and invite our friends and neighbors over to find it. = D
- I would also love to see a few more “basic building blocks” in the various materials added to the catalog. Planks (2x4s and 2x6s in full and half sizes), spindles, and “shingles”. Not actual shingles but that size. These would allow us to create a lot of the things that people are using the beams and platforms for – like stairs, interior balconies, bird perches, etc. – without spending as many points to do so.
- The cost of items – initially, I didn’t care about it as I was on the PTR and wasn’t spending my actual gold or resources. Later, I started paying attention. I realized I would not be so free in buying items, which would cause headaches in planning or wasting time traveling to get more. This doesn’t feel fun. Especially items that cost thousands of resources. I did buy them in the test and ended up not using them because they didn’t work like I wanted them to. That would be quite frustrating on live.
- Let me reiterate related feedback I gave earlier: It would be awesome if the catalog showed all available pieces and allowed us to bring an item out to try it. Then “place it” only if we have it in inventory. Maybe the item has an “outline” to denote we do not have in storage. When we exit editor it disappears.
- Just like we can turn a light on and off by clicking on it, I would love to be able to click on a container and have it fill with water or be empty. Bathtubs, buckets, etc.
- Speaking of lights… some way to make them brighter without making them physically bigger.
- Less restriction on what goes inside and outside. I got the Night Elf Crafting tent and put it up in the yard. It was as huge as my house. So I understand why it is marked for exterior. BUT I would a smaller version inside too. So maybe for these items the interior 200% is 50% of the exterior? The smaller the better for me as I would love it for a pet habitat. And yes… I know pets are not a guarantee, but I’m still building “habitats” into my house.
- Speaking of pets, I know many people want them, myself included, and that there are technical issues for this, mainly pathing. A happy middle ground might be, while we are out in the world getting décor, to stop at Breanni’s or a related trainer and purchase an obedience class. “Whiskers Learns to Sit.” “Darkmoon Cub Learns to Nap”. By buying that class, it puts an item into our storage – the pet in that position. Hopefully with the idle animations for sleeping, sitting, standing. Not just a statue. This isn’t quite as exciting as pets following us around, but it would be better than no pets at all, and I assume it would be technically easier.
- This could bypass the “hunter’s pets are harder because they are not warbound" issue. Hunters could go to a stablemaster in the area the pets are found and purchase “House Training”. The training puts a specific color of a specific hunter pet in sleep, sit, or stay (standing) positions and we can place them just like other items. Again, hopefully with their idle animtions for that pose. I’d rather have my old retired wolf always sleeping by the fire than never have him in my house at all.
- Theoretically, this could be expanded to “invite ‘friends’” over. A way to place “people” that resemble our warbands.

Thank you for the test and for listening to our feedback. I’m looking forward to the live version and really looking forward to the dye system and how it will allow us to further create spaces we enjoy.
