Hot Take: WoW needs playerhousing

Yes it would. Do you think they’re just going to magic up player housing without consuming development, art team, and design team hours? They wouldn’t just hire a whole team to make housing happen. It’s literally an either/or situation. Player housing would absolutely not bring in enough new players to justify adding new developers.

It’s gonna be a sad, sad day when I finally kill the final Heroic boss, get that AOTC … and loot … a chair.

I can’t even believe people are serious about this. That don’t consider all the negative aspects of how it would water down the content of the game.

Go play the Sims.

Prove it

Prove they wouldn’t contract out a team to make player housing and would have to take from the team working on raids or whatever.

I didn’t think so

Just admit you have no clue

I’m just keeping my fingers crossed that’s the next xpac’s big reveal.

This is actually a really good idea. Maybe throw in some flying islands and dragonriding.

They’re not going to waste development hours on something an extreme minority of players want. They tried that with garrisons and everyone hated it.

So where do you get those numbers from? The forums where less than 1% of the player base visits?

Only if we can vandalize them through PVP Mechanics

We could have our own boat too, there are defiantly options that would provide a custom place we can call home. As most of the models are already in game it would take less work then building player housing from the ground up.

Don’t need proof. People barely use the housing systems in FF14- there are a few hundred people who are pretty hardcore about it but everyone else ignores it. And that community is way more hardcore about that type of thing than this one will ever be.

more dungeons, more world content, more pvp and raids. This game didn’t become the best MMO of all time by focusing on the extreme niche communities. Need focus. Games that try to appeal to too many audiences fail.

Most MMOs aren’t very successful and I know that correlation isn’t causation but perhaps player housing just hasn’t been a very big draw for them?

Player housing has never been and will never be something that is going to make or break WoW.

They try to add stuff like that as a draw and what ‘makes them different’ - but the truth is very few people care about it. Combat systems, story, dungeons and adventure are the primary drivers of these games. Exploration being expanded would have a much larger impact on the game than housing ever could.

To be fair on the FFXIV example.

Their housing structure is hat on butt stupid and large portions of the community just straight up can’t get housing due to each house physically existing and thus forcing plots to be stupid rare+stupid expensive.

WoW on the other hand could easily support a instanced style housing structure (think garrisons but scaled back in size and allow more static customization) without much of an issue.

The only reason to not want it at this point is the belief that having devs work on this feature would cost them a raid tier.

I nailed it.

FF14 limits their player housing for some dumb reason.

In games like SWTOR, where everyone gets exactly the house they want, everyone uses it.

It’s the only game to scale that I could compare it to since they were hounding proof. I agree it could be done better, the question is value added. Playing housing is a good RPG mechanic. I just don’t really think WoW is an RPG anymore. Hasn’t been for some time. It’s more of an adventure game at this point.
