Yes, the current gearing systems have probably had a pretty negative impact on the casual/unranked community. I was surprised it wasn’t rolled back in s2-3 after participation fell off a cliff.
I’d say they still have a chance with s4 but this is probably just what we have until Dragonlands.
It’s less about the gear than the game being super hard to adapt as a casual. Game is super unforgiving atm for them and they get punished tremendously for it.
Gear helps too much sure - but the pace of the game is too fast for pvers or casuals.
Like people who click frames could get by somewhat back then to 21-22 - now they can’t even hit 1800.
Yeah, even with Duelist gear you’d still see people getting snapped in half left and right, but a lot of them never reach that level and pose even less resistance.
Macros that have medallion+defensive or cc suddenly feeling useful again. I’ve seen a lot of people die in the time it takes them to trinket wall or something. Or get micro cc’d with like warstomp on their trinket.

I play Thunder, Ret War, MM KFC and Thug. I’m used to getting blasted my guy on all my toons.
Don’t think ret lives easily atm with all the DK Demo Teams either.
when someone reacts properly to a big go and gets away, and i still have incarn up for even 5 seconds, i’ll pretty often get an extra defensive or just kill something squishy like a rogue just by putting 4 starsurges into the other dps with war stomp after the second one
